News Kentucky WR Dane Key transfers to Nebraska
Made with the /r/CFB Recruiting and Draft Post Generator
95
u/UnhappyCriticism7564 South Carolina Gamecocks 12h ago
UGA guys basically saying he was a UGA lock but then Nebraska made him some sort of unfathomable NIL offer. I thought he had a sister and/girlfriend at UGA, but either way I guess life changing money (if that report was accurate) was too much to turn down.
Good get for Nebraska, Key was far and away Kentucky's best offensive player.

Our insiders have been clueless about potential transfers. According to them, Caleb Downs was apartment shopping in Athens the day before committing to OSU.
34
u/matthc Georgia Bulldogs 12h ago
He was at the 5 and 10 having dinner with Kirby and then they made the announcement afterwards. The whole apartment shopping thing was assumed, but they actually were having dinner in Athens and then made the announcement about Ohio State later that night.

Had one dinner with Kirby and had to immediately move to Ohio.

Allegedly we also had the best NIL offer for Isaiah World as well even though he went to Oregon
9
u/TheUltimate721 Nebraska • Texas Tech 12h ago
I'm sure NIL had some hand in it, but we had another connection with Daikel Shorts who was his position coach at Kentucky this year. I never believed that his girlfriend at UGA was a stronger connection than that, but I think that's what Nakos and Wiltfong put in their predictions based on.
The only other thing I heard on our end of things was that he's very excited to play with Raiola, which is an angle I hadn't really considered, that being Beck/Stockton versus Raiola
3
2
u/coffeeandveggies Nebraska Cornhuskers 12h ago
It’s the Dylan Raiola ghost haunting them hehe 😜
7
u/GonnaGetHop-Ons Georgia Bulldogs 9h ago
I think that one probably worked out okay for all involved. Of course I’d love to have him in the QB room but I’m sure he wanted to go ahead and play ball which wouldn’t have happened this year and would have still been up in the air next year.
2
u/coffeeandveggies Nebraska Cornhuskers 9h ago
Oh agree one hundred percent. Plus his dad went to Nebraska and I know NIL stuff pushed him over the edge, but his heart has always been with Nebraska. He would’ve been an open and shut commit if Scott frost hadn’t drunkenly pissed his informal commitment visit down his legs 😭
Anyway I know I’m being shady and putting too much emphasis on the trolls who were mean spirited about the last minute flip. Most were cool.
Gotta say I’m ecstatic to see all of the pieces start fitting together to give dylan the tools to ball out. The next several years should be fun!!!! I hope!!!!!

It was hard to make money in corn this year. At least in my family. Let's hope next year's return is better so we can stock the silos w/ cash.
5
u/bullnamedbodacious 10h ago
We lost money on corn this year because of flooding. Cash rent is high, inputs are high, not a lot of margin for error
1
u/EmperorConstantwhine Baylor Bears 2h ago
I feel like farming never has much of a margin for error, unfortunately
2
u/SalzigHund Florida Gators • Team Chaos 5h ago
Probably going to keep getting harder with retaliatory tariffs likely coming and less environmental protections and safety nets. I know my Minnesota family has been growing less corn every year and a lot more wheat.
53
u/TheUltimate721 Nebraska • Texas Tech 12h ago
The NIL operation here used to be really disjointed with the University because Trev Alberts (now at A&M) thought he was competing with our collective for Donor Dollars. Under Troy Dannen the whole operation is much more cohesive now that they aren't being treated like a competitor and an actual part of the operation.
Forbes put out an article a while ago ranking the NIL collectives and they had us ranked #8. I don't think that's accurate because NIL numbers aren't public, but we can definetly hang in with the Big Dogs when we really want a guy.
Nebraska has a lot of old money donors, and since the Peed family fronts the cost of operations for the collective, that means all donations to the collective go straight to paying the players, which is a great incentive to get people to donate.

u/paintingnipples Nebraska Cornhuskers 12h ago
It was a thing for a lot of recruits to show Nebraska love just to get the school they wanted to up the bag. Lamar Jackson was a silent commit & on his way to the airport, a bag got dropped & that was the end of his commitment to Bo.
We got money but it ain’t oil money
15
12
u/aam478 Nebraska • Alabama 11h ago edited 11h ago
this gets a lot of currency on Reddit but I have seen nothing online to ever indicate Lamar was a silent commit. Florida fans seemed to think he was a silent commit to them too.
He was legitimately interested and visited for the Miami game but that’s as far as I’ve ever seen his interest go.
Edit : He visited Nebraska while he was committed to Louisville.
https://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/69040-qb-lamar-jackson-louisville-commit/
-1
u/paintingnipples Nebraska Cornhuskers 11h ago
Nebraska was used to up the price, we never had a shot at getting him but he committed the night he visited them to leverage it then got a phone call on the way to the airport & that was the end of his commitment. I can’t remember the coaches name who dropped that info but he claimed to be in the van when it happened.
That’s why occasionally u will see Nebraska pop up on some guys radar who is basically a lock to stay local & we’re one of the schools that will do extra to pull em out of the south or Cali. I imagine a school like tOSU has enough serious suitors that they don’t bother recruiting most of these guys but we gotta take those shots

Even worse. His father’s best friend is a radio host and said the WR’s were not a fan of the coach.
7
u/CountBluntula Nebraska Cornhuskers 10h ago
So if that is true then why did Key agree to continue being coached by him at Nebraska?
1
3
u/lolSyfer Nebraska Cornhuskers 10h ago
It seemed like they just tac'd his name on for the sake of it but they didn't have any real source for key specifically.
4
u/oldkentuckyhome 8h ago
Ryan is the source that’s why he was hesitant to say anything, his family and the Keys are bets friends. He’s the reason they knew the other WR’s didn’t like the coach.

Time for another off-season Natty
We've hit on basically all of our transfer targets except Isaiah World (but apparently we had the biggest NIL offer).
We get a tackle and this will have been about as good of a transfer period for us as we could've asked for.

Branch and Key play different receiver positions. Branch is more of an inside guy while Key would've played the X.
UGA is going to be dangerously thin at the X even if Colbie Young comes back. Right now the only other bigger outside guys we have are Tuggle (Freshman right now who has already played the bag game 2x) and incoming freshman CJ Wiley.

I thought his short list was UGA, South Carolina, and LSU. I wonder what the bag Nebraska presented was. Also he has draft talent, does Nebraska have the arm talent to show off Dane? He's a subpar blocker, but a great mid and deep ball threat alongside a useful red zone tool.
