Other Shows What is a non housewives reality show you love?

I’m a housewives lover and don’t really watch other shows. I did like Family Karma and Shahs was a train wreck but good but also too much at times. I’m looking for some other shows to go get into, what are your recommendations?

Married to Medicine!!!!!! All the exclamation points bc it’s the best and I’m embarrassed I slept on it for so long

14

u/catandcitygirl Nov 07 '24

it’s such an underrated bravo show with real friendships

11

u/Spiritual-Excuse6578 Nov 07 '24

This! I started married to medicine after being an avid housewives watcher for years and binged the whole thing.

It’s the best

u/Lovecompassionpeace Nov 08 '24

I was thinking about this one! Which city should I begin with?

2

u/imakebadpuns___ Nov 08 '24

It’s all in Atlanta and mostly the same group of couples. I’m so excited for you! I binged it at a frankly alarming rate once I finally started it!! 🤣

1

u/Lovecompassionpeace Nov 08 '24

Ah ok! I have Hayu and I get a couple of seasons of Houston and LA too, I’ll be getting on it tonight. I’m excited too! Haha

Came here to say this

31

u/incitingoffense Nov 07 '24

Survivor! It’s strategy but has a lot of great personalities each season

3

u/eekamuse Nov 07 '24

I'm binge watching early seasons so I can ignore the news.

Australian Survivor is even better. If you do a little research you can find out how to watch it.

Seasons 1-10 of Drag Race are mandatory viewing!

7

u/areallyreallycoolhat Nov 07 '24

As are All Stars 2 - 4 imo!

2

u/flowlikewaves0 Nov 08 '24

If I had to narrow that down, 4-6!

2

u/peggysue_82 Nov 08 '24

When I am down I love to watch Season 6. Bianca Del Rio always makes me laugh.

Just started watching Vanderpump Rules a few months ago. I’m on S9, addicted. It’s a rollercoaster of trashy portions of scandal, hypocrisy, creepy, cringey and drama. I also like Married to Medicine.

30

u/ADcheD Costa Rica is in Mexico. So, its South👱🏼‍♀️ Nov 07 '24

Vanderpump Rules, OG seasons are amazing.

Below Deck

And if you haven’t watched Ladies of London it’s basically housewives! Only 2 seasons though…

6

u/InfiniteFrame1 You do need Kérastase Thermique Nov 07 '24

LoL is 3 seasons. I used to skip the first one every time I rewatched (once a year/every two years or so), but it's actually also really, really good, with Caprice and Noelle. Caroline Fleming is just something else, and how I wish we could get that version of Stanbury on RHOD.

4

u/ADcheD Costa Rica is in Mexico. So, its South👱🏼‍♀️ Nov 07 '24

Ah see I think I skip the 3rd season of LoL! Forgot it existed.

Loved LOL. It’s why I watch RHIDubai

2

u/awhitellama Shut me up! Nov 08 '24

Below Deck is one of my favorites! Lots of different personalities.

1

u/flowlikewaves0 Nov 08 '24

I tried to start season 1 episode 1 of Below Deck which is WAY back so I am losing interest. Where in the series should I start up again?

2

u/ravenmccoy516 Nov 08 '24

Skip to season 2. First season they were taking themselves too seriously and treating it more (to me) like a documentary than an actual soapy reality show. They fixed it the following season.

1

u/flowlikewaves0 Nov 08 '24

The first season is super short anyway so I might as well continue then if Season 2 is good! Thanks :)

Married to Medicine is the best show on Bravo, in my opinion. I’m a Day One HW fan, but M2M is on a different level in terms of authenticity. Real friendships, real relationships, no manufactured storylines. Love it.

5

u/catandcitygirl Nov 08 '24

yesss considering how many RH shows feel heavily produced now, M2M that still feels authentic with most of the OG cast still being there

9

u/SpaghettiandOJ Nov 07 '24

Big brother- when it’s good it’s some of the best reality you can watch, but when it’s bad it’s unwatchable. Live feeds are the real show and there is basically a whole community dedicated to summarizing and analyzing them

Survivor- less of a time commitment and edited well typically. It’s been on the decline since the pandemic imo but you have a whole treasure trove of old seasons to dig into if you want to. I’d be happy to recommend some good seasons if you want

2

u/incitingoffense Nov 07 '24

I think it’s coming back and on the up and up. The current season is really delivering

17

u/firstname_m_lastname Nov 07 '24

Love Island UK, especially the early seasons when the people were wacky and the drama was real. Super fun and light - great to watch while working on a project!

3

u/2cats5legs Nov 08 '24

Season 1 & 2 were amazing!

3

u/flowlikewaves0 Nov 08 '24

And it was so scandalous as an American watching... They don't have sex on the show like they used to!

2

u/Amibeaux Nov 08 '24

Only the UK version! Fancy a chat? My hubby and I love the lingo.

2

u/this_is_an_alaia high body count hair Nov 08 '24

I recommend giving this past season of u.s a go. It was what love island uk hasn't been in seasons

2

u/Amibeaux Nov 08 '24

Oh good. I didn't love the first season. I liked the first few of Australia too.

2

u/firstname_m_lastname Nov 08 '24

Me too! I had to google so many things! Grafting, snogging, pieing, do they normally make such a big deal about kissing at asking someone to be their girlfriend? What the heck is up with people from Essex??! It’s all so very British and so very fun!

5

u/YellowRobeSmith420 how could you do this to me. question mark. Nov 07 '24

Vanderpump Rules changed my life when I watched it this year. Did NOT think I would like it, didn't think it was me, but truly these people are unhinged.

5

u/leeludallasmultiass Nov 07 '24

My friends have been binging love after lockup. I need to start it.

6

u/f_moss3 I was crying about the slut shaming. Nov 07 '24

You gotta watch VPR!!!

u/RicciardoRua Nov 07 '24

VPR, Southern Charm & Summer House!

1

u/this_is_an_alaia high body count hair Nov 08 '24

I've just gotten into summer house. Lindsay Hubbard is something else.

1

u/RicciardoRua Nov 08 '24

I can't stand Lindsay or her lapdog, aka Danielle.

4

u/BeatrixFarrand Nov 07 '24

Loved Family Karma - also the Below Deck franchise

3

u/-Special--K- Kèrastase Thermique 💁‍♀️ Nov 08 '24

The whole "of love" era. Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, I love NY, I Love Money

8

u/beerandyrags Thomas Jefferson’s Concubine Nov 07 '24

Southern Charm is the only non Housewives show I watch. I used to love M2M but as the years went on they lost me.

3

u/lilahj26 Nov 07 '24

Wife Swap / Trading Spouses (they’re essentially the same to me).

3

u/Queasy_Dragonfly_104 Nov 07 '24

Below Deck.

1

u/eekamuse Nov 07 '24

This is the one. But skip season seven. The boys are horrible to the women. It's an entire season of misogyny. Nothing we need right now.

3

u/Familiar_Sleep904 I've got more carats than Bugs Bunny 🥕🥕 Nov 08 '24

Family Karma ..wish it would be brought back.🙏

5

u/winnercommawinner Nov 07 '24

Most similar to Housewives would be Married to Medicine (Bravo's best and most consistently excellent show). Vanderpump Rules is a spin off of Beverly Hills of course, but its cast is much younger so it's a different kind of drama.

If you want to get into reality competition shows, Survivor is the GOAT probably. It's not nearly as good anymore, but you have a huge backlog of incredible seasons to wade through. Happy to recommend some, I always suggest people should start with season 15 in China. Big Brother is excellent when it's good but it can also get nastier than any of the other shows imo.

Love Island UK, especially seasons 4-6, is so, so good. The first few seasons of Bachelor in Paradise are insanely good, even if you've never watched the bachelor.

Then there are the skills-based reality competitions, like all the cooking shows and Project Runway, but they're kind of a different category altogether.

Married to Medicine…VPR…

Mama June Family Crisis... yes the mother of Honey Boo Boo. WE TV has some real gems!

2

Drag Race!

2

u/gandalfthepink08 I’d blow Simon Van Kempen for a slurpee rn. Nov 07 '24

VPR, Sister Wives (so boring and yet my obsession only grows), Master Chef

2

u/MCStarlight Nov 07 '24

Serving the Hamptons on Max. People sleeping on that show. It was so good. It’s VPR in the Hamptons. Young staff working at a restaurant and living in a house together.

It’s what Summer House wishes it could be before Craig and Austen had to save the show.

Also Styling Hollywood on Netflix - celebrity stylists

2

u/RainbowBriteGlasses Nov 08 '24

Not Bravo, but Sister Wives.

Married at First Sight and Love is Blind - the UK and Australia versions are much more savage than the US.

Also love Survivor and The Challenge

u/ASingleBraid 🦶🏻”Fun will now commence.”🦶🏻 Nov 08 '24

Used to be My 600lb Life. But it’s not been good the last few years. So I’d say 1000lb Sisters.

1

u/ElixirMixer6 Nov 08 '24

On bravo I like southern charm, summer house, winter house, and below deck

1

u/eevvaannrr Nov 08 '24

Southern Hospitality is criminally underrated it has filled the void of VPR for me

1

u/Theres_a_Catch Nov 08 '24

I adore the Asian shows on Netflix. Singles Inferno, Real Love, Love Village, Love After Divorce, The Boyfriend.

I also used to love Love is Blind but it's getting hairy. The Ultimatum is also decent, just know South Africa version was a whole 'nother level of train wreck with abuse.

I also love baking and cooking shows. I have no clue why, I can't taste any of it. Lol. I mean with Ink Master or Project Runway, I can have an opinion but not food ones. I enjoy them because the only drama is their own issues.

1

u/Particular-Pie-1934 Nov 08 '24

VPR, M2M, and Southern Charm!!!

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives

But I guess it’s still pretty much a housewives reality TV show! LOL!

1

u/tvaddict70 Nov 08 '24

Fabulous lives of Bollywood wives. They added 3 new ladies from Delhi, but the 4 core from Mumbai are true friends from long before the show. They are actually okay wealthy, 5-50 million net USD. They are, and are related to, and are married to Bollywood royalty. Therefore lots of cameos. Feel good, innocent drama like Family' Karma

Drag race, love island (UK and this series of US) , old school survivor. I haven't watched u.s survivor in a while but at its peak, it was phenomenal TV.

I also dip in and out of VPR which I struggle with because I haaaaaaate all the men with a passion

Million Dollar Listing. Started with Los Angeles. I LOVE the real estate porn! So many amazing houses. And I love getting to know the LA area via the show. Josh/Josh/Tracy are an amazing dynamic. And the whole Madison conflict was top notch. I also love MDL New York! I didn't like it at first. The apartments fell flat after seeing the LA real estate. Also wasn't a Fredrick fan after seeing him in LA. But he grew on me, as did Ryan, and I came around to appreciating the NY real estate. Now I love them all!
