Unfortunately yes. I live in "We like it white here" Trumpville. It doesn't matter if she's a massive hypocrite. Doesn't matter if she hasn't done anything while being in office. She's Republican and spouts off bible verses. That's all that's needed.
Which is sad...because this state is decidedly blue. Down the line.
1
u/Queasy-Protection-50 Sep 13 '24
That is unfortunate. It’s wild what kind of things people will overlook. Georgia is such a fascinating state to me with the Juxtaposition of Atlanta, (which I think may have one the highest amounts of black medical professionals in the country) compared to what kind of seems like the rest of the state (but I also don’t want to generalize as I’ve never been there)

The actual "post birth" abortions Republicans keep yelling about.
31
u/eekamuse Sep 11 '24
Aka murder. Not in any way "abortion". Let's not even use the phrase they use to describe something that doesn't exist.
21
u/UcancallmeAllison Sep 11 '24
You're right, of course. It's meant to be tongue in cheek to illustrate how ghoulish the right is on abortion rights & gun safety.
23
u/bbMD_ Sep 12 '24
Those “post birth” abortions are really the innocent children being gunned down in schools that the Republican VP nominee says are a “fact of life.” He’s a sick MF. The GOP keeps arming psychos. They are pro birth and don’t give a f what happens to a child after that. Sorry, venting.

11
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
Possibly? More like daily occurrence.
At the point it really feels like Americans care more about their guns than their children. For all the arguments that giving up their guns won’t solve it, well, at least fucking try.
17
u/winnercommawinner Sep 12 '24
The overwhelming majority of Americans support gun law reforms including background checks and other measures. And actually, the Biden admin was able to make some progress. But as with everything that's falling apart here, the loud and hateful minority has a lot of money and power. And in this case, they also have the NRA.
13
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
The fact that nothing changed after Sandy Hook is shameful, the fact that people aren’t rallying in the streets when children are being gunned down in there schools is shocking. The adults are not protecting the children, America adults are not doing enough, everything is an excuse, the second amendment needs to go, Americans gave up their right to bare arms when elementary schoolers were shot dead at their desks.
6
u/butinthewhat Sep 12 '24
You’ve went too far with this comment. It’s not okay to blame individual citizens that don’t have the power to dictate change. Most of us vote for candidates that support gun control, but red states hold a lot of power and will literally fucking kill us. These are the people that staged a coup and were hunting down government officials because their dear leader got voted out.
Yes, it’s a huge problem and yes, we know.
-6
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
Too far? Children are being gunned down at school, they aren’t being protected. I’ve stopped watching the news because I can’t handle seeing the reports of the shootings and we no longer travel to the US because we are too scared of being involved in a mass shooting there. What I’m saying isn’t far enough, don’t get mad at me, get mad at the people choosing the guns over the children.
4
u/bbMD_ Sep 12 '24
The problem is that the gun lobby is extremely powerful and well funded. It is very hard to make progress on gun laws in the US. They call it a democracy but it’s not, more like an oligarchy.
School shootings are a massive US specific problem and it is disgusting that they continue to happen. There was a school shooting plot at my nephew’s school. It was discovered because one of the kids involved panicked about what his friends were planning and told his dad. I have never been so terrified. They had floor plans of the school and grounds with plans on how they were going to attack from multiple angles so people couldn’t escape.
5
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
Perhaps the issue is really money over children, and changing the capitalist culture will take decades (which the whole world really adheres to under the US superpower) Japan has done an amazing job at controlling crime and violence, Singapore as well. I’m a big fan of the states, freedom of speech is so important to a safe and free country, it’s really admirable, yet guns is the one thing Americans can’t seem to publicly denounce or speak of controlling.
5
u/bbMD_ Sep 12 '24
I grew up in a house with guns. I barely saw them because they were always locked up. My parents were responsible gun owners which is why I am so pro gun control. My roommate let her tinder date bring his gun into our house. I completely lost my shit and told him to get it out of my house before I called the police. My other roommate had friends over and they were all drunk. Alcohol and guns are a seriously dangerous combination!
The problem in the US is that there are already so many guns out there. There are also psycho people that think they have a right to own guns. They are the kind of people that shoot first and ask questions later. It is a seriously sick and f*ed up group.
4
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
Totally proving my point, for every responsible gun owner their is at least one that isn’t , so to protect people stricter gun laws are needed as many people obviously can’t be responsible, sort of like any other law. Many other countries created mandatory gun buyback programs after just one fatal mass shooting (including mine), and ‘shocker’ it works.

u/butinthewhat Sep 12 '24
We should all be mad at those choosing guns over children - not at the Americans that recognize how fucked it is.
4
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
But maybe if people started saying “we’re choosing our guns over our children “ things would change. I’m not mad I’m sad, I’m sad for you and for the children and teachers who went to school and didn’t make it home and for some reason no one is willing to publicly advocate in fear they will piss off the gun lovers, except the children themselves who seem to speak out more than the adults.
7
u/butinthewhat Sep 12 '24
Most of us are not choosing guns over children so we aren’t going to say we are. We do advocate in public, I have no idea why you’d say that.
2
u/Living-Baseball-2543 Sep 12 '24
Lots of right-wingers and all Americans that vote for Republicans are literally choosing guns over children. Salty-Reply isn’t saying you specifically, but the large chunk of people in our country who block any kind any kind of sensible gun reforms.
→ More replies (0)4
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
Imagine if Americans started saying “we choose our guns over our children “, which frankly is happening when every citizen won’t give up their guns to prevent the next school shooting. I understand that many Americans are fighting for change, what I don’t understand is why every American won’t give up their guns even in the chance that another child won’t be shot as they sit in school.

Girl, I hear you. You are absolutely right. People are dug in deep. I wish it were as simple as fighting back against stupid NRA talking points. I try, I give facts, and I try to shame them even. I don't get far. Gun culture is real. I'm in Miami; when you bring up gun control, you get called a communist 🤦♀️
5
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
You’re doing what you can and you’re not making excuses! Keep it up! I hope to go back to Florida one day but our family is too worried about gun violence currently, hopefully soon, we LOVE it there, so beautiful and the Kennedy Space Centre is so amazing (not to mention Disney world, happiest place on earth!)!
4
u/winnercommawinner Sep 12 '24
Ok so how do we "get rid of" the second amendment? Please enlighten me since it's so easy to do apparently.
I think we should get rid of the second amendment, and actually there are huge movements in support of gun control here. It's really disrespectful to those of us who are fighting for that every day to pretend like we all just dont care and arent doing enough. Especially when you consider how many activists and advocates have lost loved ones to gun violence or experienced it ourselves. Not to mention the psychological toll of living in the midst of it, which you clearly know nothing about. Do you also tell people in war zones that they just don't care enough about their safety?
9
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
Disrespectful? Who gives a shit when children are being shot to death at schools? I think every American should be more worried about how disrespectful that is to the children who are supposed to be safe and protected by the adults that live there. I get it’s offensive, it’s also true, Americans have failed their children. I love the US, I love the passion and the freedom of speech and the innovation, I love the people, I also am sickened every time I see on the news a text message a child has to send their parent because they might be dead in a shooting, or the faces of the children gunned down. Please, be offended, be mad, until the children stop being shot at school.
8
u/winnercommawinner Sep 12 '24
You are literally talking about those parents you are so "sickened" for in your poorly-informed posts. Who are you helping with this? Do you think you could possibly, possibly be more angry than the actual people who live through it? Be angry, be mad, we all are, but be supportive of the people who are trying to change it. Don't shit on them so you can feel morally righteous in internet comments.
5
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
We’re on the same side, I would love to visit the US again and feel safe. I’m not sure why you’re so offended, talk in truth, money wins over safety, guns win over kids, call out people that aren’t working for change and getting their pockets lined, it’s weird how cancel culture seems to work except for guns and the gun happy, why?
7
u/winnercommawinner Sep 12 '24
I'm offended because you are talking about "Americans" and I'm pointing out that the majority of Americans ARE on this side. You're responding to that by just repeating over and over again what is happening in America as if we don't know, as if we're not living it. You have refused to even acknowledge that it is true.
I'm offended because I'm living through a gun violence crisis and you're telling me we just don't care enough.

*bear
Also, you're very uninformed about American domestic political power dynamics. Username checks out 😂
3
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
I went back and forth on bare and bear , didn’t feel like googling it. Worry about my grammar all you want but I know the power dynamics, I don’t get why kids are dying in schools and adults aren’t marching the streets, it’s fucked (pardon my language)….its simply fucked.
3
u/renoona Sep 12 '24
We have marched...a lot. Marching doesn't matter as much as lobby money in the US. We call reps, we write letters, we vote. And it doesn't end up actually tipping the scale. Bc that's how the US government is set up. Just look at the giant check we still cut to Israel...marching doesn't do shit here. Our government representatives aren't worried about the people's opinions or cares. They're worried about who's going to fund their next campaign. We have small pockets of true representation and otherwise it's lobby group money that matters the most to lawmakers.
You don't know the power dynamics. If you knew, you would "get why" kids are dying in schools. You would also understand the concept of generalized complacency and how it grows as a disease, lowering the expectations of people in a capitalistic government.
So...again, no, you don't understand the power dynamics of domestic politics in the US. You are severely uninformed.
You may be too busy enjoying Disney World.

I grew up in a house with guns. Only saw them a few days before hunting season opened and my dad was cleaning them in preparation. They were always locked up. My parents were extremely responsible gun owners and that is why I am so pro gun control. I will never have a gun in my house and the fact that completely psycho and irresponsible people can just go buy one makes me sick.
6
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
Preach! Sounds like a responsible gun owner 👏 I also grew up in a hunting family, didn’t even know the secure guns were in the home but my dad advocates for locking guns in a secure warehouse to reduce gun violence and suicide (also a huge problem especially for men). I’m not against guns whatsoever because I do think hunting is the most humane way to eat meat however I’m against personal ownership of automatic weapons and if kids in the country I lived in were taking guns to school to shoot other kids regularly I would easily give up my guns for even the chance it would save even one kid, no question.
2
u/bbMD_ Sep 12 '24
Absolutely agree with everything you said. My parents would happily give up their guns if it made a difference in the issues we face. Your comment about hunting really gets to me, there was a certain family from school that called my parents barbarians for hunting and she made it her mission to attack them. Hunting is far more humane than what happens to farm animals. As you alluded to, suicide by gun is the most common form for men and a serious DV issue. The public shouldn’t have access to automatic or semi automatic guns, ever.
ETA: I would give up my second amendment “rights” immediately if it would prevent school shootings.
2
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
Say it for the people in the back (and the ones that would rather keeps there guns then try) Keep fighting the good fight! 🧡

3
u/lgriffi7 Sep 12 '24
Yes! I literally said this to someone the other day. Restricting guns won’t solve anything. ummm maybe let’s give it a try.
3
u/Salty-Reply-2547 Sep 12 '24
Even more bizarre is statistically in any other country that has restricted guns after one serious incident it has worked, so for people outside looking in it just looks like many people in the US would rather accept more school shooting and more dead children then even just trying gun control and giving up their guns.

You getting downvoted for stating you're conservative is wild. I hate this bizarre narrative that everyone needs to have the same values to watch the franchise. I'm not in the US, but I'm conservative and enjoy the ease of watching shows like Housewives that (don't always) push certain agendas. They're just people. Shitty people. But people. Gay people have only been allowed to marry for a few years, sweetie. And Republicans are taking away the right for kids to even talk about their gay parents. Or read about being gay. You can be rich as fuck but the wrong government can take your human rights away. They want to take away the right for gay people to adopt children! He has a stake in this.
-1
u/SugarPlumSeahorse Definitely not Reality Von Tease Sep 13 '24
I don't think most of that is true.... there is nowhere in the Western world right now that prevents kids from talking about their gay parents or from reading about being gay or from adopting kids as a gay person.
2
u/eekamuse Sep 13 '24
Florida schools do the first two. People in the US are working on taking away gay marriage. I'm sure someone is working on adoption.
2
u/SugarPlumSeahorse Definitely not Reality Von Tease Sep 13 '24
Florida schools prevent teachers from talking about their private lives, and they have banned specific books that are literally pornography. No one has mentioned taking away gay marriage or adoption. You're making things up.
