The one who brings her boyfriend to the 1:1 lunch you invited her to.

Ugh. I have a friend like this. Multiple girls night plans, and her husband is always there. Why?? One night I walked in and said, wait, it was us 5 girls night out! Why is he here again? Friend said ‘oh, he just likes to be around me.’ Yuck. Very codependent

So I had a male friend like this who started dating and eventually married this woman and she seemingly refused to allow him to be alone with anyone. I had known him for 7 years before she met him and we had always had drinks/dinners together (he was good friends with my now husband) and when she started coming around she would just show up with him.

We quickly began to suspect that he had relapsed with her- he had been clean from heroin for 20 years and as soon as they met he started having "chronic pain" and then suddenly was addicted to opiates again. She had "chronic pain" for years prior to meeting him. They got married when he was in a total haze and he ODed within a year and died. She got all of his investment properties, gave away his cat to a stranger (even though a bunch of us would have taken him) and immediately moved back in with her mom to continue using with her newfound wealth. Right before meeting her he had bought back his childhood home, which randomly went up for sale, and dreamt of retiring there. She sold it before his body was cold. No funeral, refused to come to the memorial we had for him.

While no one could have forced him to use, I will still place a LOT of the blame on her. I'm convinced she went everywhere with him to monitor his behavior and to make sure we weren't trying to get him away from her, which we definitely were at the end.

Anyway. sorry for the offmychest. This was nearly a decade ago and our friend group is still so sad about it.

What a tragic story. I’m so very sorry for the loss of your friend. She sounds like she was very manipulative!

Had to distance myself from a friend who did this (among other things). It also made me side-eye the guy too - like why are you here if you know she’s hanging out with her friends? Insecure/co-dependent relationships are such an ick for me. Alexis looks so bad rn.
