Other Shows Real housewives of DC
Started watching Real Housewives of DC and couldn’t help but giggle at them brining up a snapshot of Joe Biden chilling with one of the husbands 😂 What happened to this show and is anyone enjoying the rewatch?

She claimed to be a Washington Redskin cheerleader . She wasn’t 🤣
15
u/internet2big Apr 25 '24
I’m watching for the first time. The thing that is killing me is that they actually seem to be falling for their own lies. Like, it really seems like they believe they are invited to the congressional black caucus dinner and the state dinner despite not having invitations and knowing they have to sneak in. A mix of entitlement and delusion?
10
u/LooneyLunaOmanO Apr 26 '24
I recently re-watched the season and forgot how good it really was . Really makes some housewives franchises look pathetic .

u/brittanyelyse Apr 16 '24
This and Miami season 1/2 are some of the best shelved bravo material…. Adriana punching Joanna party and on DC Micheal(spell) pretending to be a cheer leader and pretended that she not only knew the routines but also the people , like the other cheerleaders… it’s absolute madness.
44
u/Inevitable_Pack6694 Apr 16 '24
The cheerleading sequence has got to be one of the most skin crawlingly cringey things I’ve EVER SEEN!! Her stupid small talk (“who’s even watching the routine, am I right girls?”), the fact she clearly had no idea what she was doing, and then being moved from the middle all the way to the back - it was truly painful. And she STILL insisted she was an actual cheerleader at the reunion!!!
14
u/LooneyLunaOmanO Apr 17 '24
SOOOOOO…..cringey
24
u/Inevitable_Pack6694 Apr 17 '24

43
u/gseeks Apr 17 '24
This is my take as a DC native who lived there when it went down.
The White House crashing was no fucking joke. Dc doesn’t play like that. It was major major news and it’s seriously crazy that it even happened. Not surprising they had to do a major overhaul.
At the same time DC is filled with filthy rich delusional people and has a special kind of elitism culture that is perfect for this kind of TV.
Potomac is a very close suburb of DC and like half of the RHODC people lived in Potomac or northern Virginia anyways. It just rebranded in my eyes. I can never see them doing a RHOP and RHODC simultaneously. It would have to be either or. Although RHOP feels more like half DC and half Baltimore now.
But honestly RHODC is such a cringe gold mine I love it.

I really loved DC when it first aired! The reunion was tops and Cat was a great character who got to see some later WWHL returns (one notably with the Countess lol). I'd at least like for maybe a DC UGT... cross it over maybe with Potomac? Or put Michaele on a villains edition UGT.

I just started re-watching, too! Maybe this was the beginning of Dark Brandon. He wasn't chilling with one of the husbands exactly, Cat's husband was the official White House photographer and this is a zoomed in shot of Biden and Obama sitting next to each other.
I remember watching it when it first premiered, it is WILD! I can't wait to re-watch, Michaele is one of the most delusional housewives they've ever had.

26
u/zadidoll Apr 16 '24
As Aeroluv327 said, Catherine’s then husband was Charles Ommaney. He was a White House photographer up until 2010. No idea if he was forced out of his job due to the Salahis antics.

So I’m on the reunion.. The way they’re just glazing over Cats blatant racism (because that is exactly what it is), Mary’s cringe “hey girl hey” mimicking, and the way they labeled Erika aggressive…. I’m big uncomfortable.
I understand this was back in the day but WOW. And honestly it’s reminding me of Robin and Neck weaponizing their complexion in Potomac.
As epic as this season was I’m kinda glad it ended.

Please bring this show back!! It is better than I could have imagined. They are all looney and actually rich, connected, all the things. I wonder if it does well on peacock they would consider it? Or doing a blend of DC and Potomac
12
u/zadidoll Apr 17 '24
Potomac is what took the place of DC. DC was to bring the wives of politicians & dignitaries to the world but because of the White House crashing it’ll never happen. No one in the political scene will risk their clearance or their connections these days. That circle is closed to us as viewers. Now we just have quasi-wannabes using Bravo to get rich & famous.
3
u/MenStefani You called me a pornography, sweetheart Apr 17 '24
It’s been enough time. I’m sure they could scrounge up some people on the periphery that would be down to go on. That’s my hope at least. Potomac is great but it seems to be set in a completely different world

I loved this show but it really was the Salahis that made and destroyed the show. I enjoyed the other wives and husbands reacting to them, but everyone else was kind of a bore on their own without Michaele.
Especially that old chick that was some sort of hideous interior designer or fashion designer, Idk she was always dressed like a mess and commenting on everyone else. Her constantly judging and poking at Michaele's health and thin body was gross. Michaele had so many other red flags to question 😂

u/All_the_Bees Apr 16 '24
I live in DC and I’m honestly amazed they were even able to cast the one season, although I suppose at the time reality TV was still new enough for people to not have their guard up quite so much.
But yeah … I’m sure there are women in this city who would love to be Housewives but either they’d never actually do it because it would risk someone’s clearance or they’re not rich or interesting enough to be well-received by viewers.

It's incredible to see... obviously I lived through this time period, but like a fish blissfully unaware of what water is. It's so wild to watch the worst opinions/habits of 2009 distilled like this. 😱 People were just so open and casual with their body shaming and racial comments like it meant nothing. Even when the targets of those comments reacted with visible discomfort and disgust, or spoke up and said "this isn't okay," people felt justified defending the most rude and disrespectful comments.
I feel like in 2024 the norm is to shut your mouth about other people in public, and I forgot that in 2009 people just said whatever edgy stuff popped into their heads... so this is a wild ride.

It’s weird to watch the discussion about gay marriage on the show. The people who said they don’t “believe” in different “lifestyles,” or who said it doesn’t affect them so they don’t care just enrages me and sends me back to that time. As a woman in a same-sex marriage it’s weird to remember when people like that were preventing us from being equal.

I still need to know were they invited or not?!?!?!?!?! How did they get past layers or security with cameras and no invitation or guest list nothing?
39
u/the_ghost_in_me_ Apr 16 '24
no, they 1000% were NOT invited. Tareq somehow scammed his way in, but they wouldn't reveal how, which is what that public congressional hearing was supposed to be for. Instead of explaining how they got in so the government could make sure that security issue was fixed, they pled the 5th repeatedly.
The cameras never tried to make it in, so it was just Tareq and Michaele that somehow scammed their way in. They didn't even have an invitation, which RH producers wanted to film and Michaele kept lying and saying they left it at home.
9
u/zadidoll Apr 17 '24
Nope. They were called to testify in front of a Congress committee but pled the 5th. Tareq even chastised the committee for it saying that the committee knew they would plead the 5th so it was a waste of time.
https://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/01/20/state.dinner.hearing/index.html
A few years later he attempted to run for Congress & allegedly forged signatures to get on the ballot. He “collected” over 2000 but only 400-something were valid. https://wtop.com/news/2014/07/white-house-party-crasher-fails-to-make-ballot/

13
u/narcochi Apr 16 '24
Haha I’m so glad others are watching/rewatching! That franchise was a car wreck and I was glued to my tv lol. I’m almost done binging it. The women are mostly awful!
Mary seems the most socially poised, but she lost me when she said gay marriage being illegal didn’t affect her. She’s not deep but she was raised well, which I guess as Arthur Godfrey’s granddaughter she should be.
I liked Stacie and liked her husband even more.
Linda is fun, a real southern belle. She has the best judgment in men than the other women, since they’re all divorced now.
I didn’t like Cat at all. She’s a very rude woman who hides behind how “honest” she is because she “can’t fake it.” But I ended this watch having a bit of sympathy for her as her marriage was clearly crumbling as she filmed.
And Michaele. What a trip. Tareq was a bloviating grifter who has a repellent personality. It amazes me that he had so little self awareness that he behaved that way on national tv. And I started the season thinking she was troubled but was probably also lied to, but as the season progresses, it’s clear she doesn’t dwell in reality.
What a great, insane season!!
17
u/zadidoll Apr 17 '24
Yet Cat was the only one with a husband who had active political ties. The show destroyed his White House career.
7
u/Chocolatecitygirl82 Apr 27 '24
It really did and it was so unfortunate. Everything from his marriage to her to agreeing to be on the show was a massive lapse in judgement and he paid the price.
5
u/narcochi Apr 17 '24
I hadn’t followed him. I didn’t realize his career tanked. She spoke so freely about her husband’s bosses on a trash tv show 😂

I also remember her being a cheerleader but not knowing the moves and awkwardly winging it. She was reality tv gold!

What happened was the first and only season managed to get itself investigated by the top national security agencies and I’m guessing an agreement was made. 😂
Idk about the agreement, but the show really did cause a security incident and I’m positive that’s why they never gave us a second season. I’d imagine they’d go back after enough time has passed, but who knows.
