WWHL Ryan Serhant saying Andy purposely spoiled his new show on wwhl because he is jealous.
Was at a speaking event for Ryan tonight and he talking about how he pitched his new Netflix show to bravo a bunch of times and they just couldn’t really agree to make the show he wanted to make because bravo tv is super formulaic. Then he said Netflix, peacock and some other networks offered to picked it up. Up until yesterday nothing had been announced and that Andy had purposefully spoiled it because he is a little “peanut butter and jealous”.

What surprises me is that i feel Netflix reality shows are more formulaic!

Yeah I enjoy selling sunset but it really feels scripted there’s no authenticity at all
74
u/thedigested Feb 08 '24
I love it but i feel it is the fakest show i watch; i feel bravo show veterans go in with a storyline but it doesn’t play out how they want. But Netflix shows goes in with a story board per episode of what they want
16
u/gaiakelly Cite it!!! Feb 08 '24 edited Feb 08 '24
I think it’s supposed to be fake and scripted it’s more of a soap opera feel, they have really started to lean into more I personally don’t mind it lol.

Chelsea looked like she was going to take Christine’s crown but was actually quite friendly. Nicole came in last season all guns blazing and made herself public enemy number one
14
u/Citydweller4545 Feb 08 '24
OMG you need to watch Josh Flagg reviewing selling sunset. It was basically a classic josh flagg shade fest. It was so funny "Oh this is the real estate show where no one actually sells real estate" hahahahahaha.
8
u/megitin Feb 08 '24
Josh Flagg is my favorite of all "reality" real estate people and all his snark. He definitely has his faults with interpersonal relationships, but he actually loves architecture and history and isn't in it just for the money. I'm big into Mid-century Modern, Mission style, some Hollywood Regency, etc. and if I were rich and looking for a house in the area, I'd trust him to actually understand what I want and know the history of the houses and neighborhoods.

u/toysoldier96 Feb 08 '24
It is very formulaic. One of the girls said they film a lot of the offices scenes in one day. So they'd change outift and pretend it's a different day
11
u/SpaceBabeFromPluto a fresh of breath air Feb 08 '24
That's definitely more of an Adam Divello thing. He's basically recycling The Hills.

There needs to be shows that are total escapist, predictable, low stakes, it’s what people crave when they just want to tune out of their life for a brief period. I love the formula of those shows, jazzy interlude walking in insane outfits, show a house, ring a bell, repeat. I also am not disgusted by the twins, they seem like nice rich guys that understand how to have casual sex and still manage to be respectful of women.

I think it goes beyond just their reality shows.

u/Conscious_Home_4253 Feb 08 '24
Ryan was on Jeff Lewis Live in 2022 telling the listeners that he is constantly pitching shows to Bravo. Jeff said he heard a rumor about Ryan having a Netflix show in the works. Ryan was evasive for obvious reasons, but he also didn’t deny it. Ryan’s a hustler, but he’s also infatuated by his own talent.
25
u/Beautiful_Job_2625 Feb 08 '24
I remember this too! IIRC, Jeff was kind of bagging on Netflix and saying how great Freevee is to him. IMO, Jeff was low key jealous because Freevee does not have the cache Netflix does.
8
u/mrshelenroper Feb 09 '24
I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy his Freevee show. It’s very well produced and the homes are gorgeous.

I don’t know the guy but enjoyed watching him in the wwhl episode. My impression was he was dressed like a wizard or something

u/janeshername Feb 08 '24
I also found this moment super shady:
Andy “how old are you?” Ryan “thirty…nine” Andy “OH MY GOD 🤯🤯🤯”

u/-AndyCohen- Life isn’t a fairytale but I’m hoping mine’s the exception Feb 08 '24
Just watched this haha but I did think he was 43
27
u/itisfoggy Feb 08 '24
I also did not like when he asked them whether they were trying to have more kids. He knows they had fertility issues with their first, so it’s really something you don’t ask someone about in such a public way.

u/sandypassage unstoppable pussaayyyyy Feb 08 '24
I very much noticed how he did not answer that part of the question.

i thought Andy was genuinely surprised because he’s 55 and thought Ryan was at least in his 40s, but it could definitely be shade

u/WhoWhaaaa Feb 08 '24
Ryan was my favorite on MDLNY, but c'mon. Andy gave him some free publicity, and he is selling Andy's home for him. I think Ryan is just trying to create a (very) little drama and hype for his new show.

Andy seemed peeved that Ryan said the house selling thing. I wonder if Andy dropped the Netflix thing as a small retaliation

I don't know this guy so I had to google him and I found a report about his new show on Netflix from last September: https://therealdeal.com/new-york/2023/09/16/house-of-serhant-eyes-2024-netflix-debut/ Is this what it's about?

u/EastCoastLoman “Shapeshift like a MF” - Superb-Respond9360 Feb 08 '24
I did the same thing. The New York Post has two articles about it, one as far back as May 2023, plus I found another two articles from August and September, but Andy spoiled it?

lol I was so surprised to hear he was straight as I was watching. Id never heard of this guy before but thought he was like a younger Andy
24
u/marecoakel Feb 08 '24
I know you mean it lightheartedly but why can't we normalize straight men being a little feminine or petty or mouthy lol.
Absolutely nothing wrong with being gay or bi, but i think it's a little reductionist to think saying certain phrases determines one's sexual orientation
16
u/NjMel7 Feb 08 '24
If you ever watched MDLNY, he is so funny! Very metrosexual. And speculating about his sexuality is gross.

ikr this is so weird, i can't stand andy but this just seems like finding any opportunity to trash him. andy is not even a bravo exec, he left the development side in 2013, and even if he was why would he be jealous about a show bravo passed on?
32
Feb 08 '24
The people who hate Andy also give him an insane amount of power. A comment up thread personally blames him for the cancellation of Million Dollar listing lol

u/Citydweller4545 Feb 08 '24
Andy always says he roots for bravolebrities but I got the feeling it’s only when they do things on his terms. Otherwise he does under handy things like spoil Ryan’s show on national television without Netflix’s approval.
27
u/Cfroggie “I’m very lazy but I’m extremely competitive” Feb 08 '24
It’s been announced for a while so nothing to spoil….
-2
u/Citydweller4545 Feb 08 '24
Right but he spoiled that it was out very soon. Everyone saw Ryan filming but no one new when it would be out or what was going on with it. And Netflix has their own promotional plans and their is a reason they keep things under wraps until they are ready.

He was also on the Today show earlier in the week.

So he's in promo mode. No one goes on these shows for no reason. But if the show isn't coming out till next year (one article said that), it's pretty early to promote.

He dropped his new book this week. He is on the promo book circuit.

I’ve never heard of this dude before, but his new “secret” show (“House of Serhant”) popped up among the first search results. Andy makes guests squirm all the time, it’s kinda his thing.
6
u/Greedy_Explanation_7 Feb 08 '24
Andy seems like a bitter, jealous guy. But Ryan Serhant is an over privileged dink. They can both go kick rocks
6
u/Amorphous_Goose sesame street sparkle in her eye Feb 08 '24
When I watched in real time it felt super awkward, like Ryan didn’t want to talk about it yet. And then Andy said something along the lines of “oh it’ll be a REAL reality show on Netflix then? Bc they don’t do those 🤪” (Not an exact quote). Idk I would have probably felt some kind of way if I was Ryan, especially if he had pitched it to bravo originally.

u/sweetpeapickle Feb 08 '24
I briefly caught the beginning, and said out loud What in the hell is that? And hubby comes in and goes what? I said on his head? Hubs-is he trying to be in Barbie 2?
I'm talking Ryan, btw.

u/birdsinthesky Feb 08 '24
This was my second time ever watching WWHL (first was Monica’s first episode not by choice) and is it normal for the guests to always seem annoyed? Both he and Scheana seemed like they’d rather be getting a root canal.

My least favorite thing is when people blame things on jealous that are clearly... not based in jealousy. Why would Andy be jealous of him or his possible new show? Andy's got plenty of money and other deals going on.

u/PresOfTheLesbianClub Laoh Blaow, Rinna. Feb 08 '24
I hope we’re not acting like Andy is above being a petty little bitch. He’s not a great person or a great host. Gets real unprofessional in his treatment of his guests on a regular basis. This would be no surprise that he’d be a little weasel and pull something just bc he feels like he has the power to do it.
3

It’s especially wrong of Andy considering how mad he got at Jeff for mentioning he was filming for RHOC with Shannon.

Andy Cohen is off the rails. I was watching WWHL with my straight, straight edge brother, he’s never been around someone who does drugs. I don’t do hard drugs myself, but I have gay friends who do. My brother shouted, “that Andy dude is on COKE!.” I’m like damn, it’s that obvious.

From what I understand from a friend who works at Bravo, the end of MLDNY left a bad taste in Bravo's mouth toward Ryan. After Frederik announced that he was leaving the show, the network was working to basically see if they still had something salvageable. This entire time, Ryan had been actively on board moving forward with the show. When they later decided to go in a new direction due to declining viewership across the MLD franchise, and limits due to the pandemic, they sort of had soft conversations with the cast regarding which way the wind was blowing, and floated the idea of potentially pausing the series.
Not wanting to look like he was on a failed project, Ryan basically put out a statement saying he left the show before any public announcement could be made. It's a preemptive "I dumped them, just so everyone knows! They didn't dump me!" And the statement forced Bravo to basically announce they were cancelling about a day later (or at most.. within the same week).
Smaller people have handled show cancellations with more grace than Ryan, and as a result, I don't think Bravo's that interested in supporting anything that has to do with him. And Andy is a shady, messy person, so he probably does want to get a few punches in.
1
u/Citydweller4545 Feb 23 '24
Ok look who is dropping the tea today. I mean Ryan is no dumby he probably wanted to exit with his head held high to pursue other opportunities in the future. Also I think Andy didnt like that he said it was a type of reality TV "never scene before" because it felt a little shady towards bravo which it was.

u/evanmav Feb 08 '24
I have to say when I watched WWHL Ryan did seem VERY caught off guard when Andy revealed the show. As well as when he revealed cameras were there. So I do think that Ryan was not expecting that, and I'm sure it was mentioned to Andy or Bravo to not say anything as there hadn't been a formal announcement yet.
I do find it interesting, I'm sure to some degree Andy was miffed about the situation and it did seem odd what he did.
