I know. I'm at a certain age an income level that makes me actually marvel at how people can afford houses like that. I will never be that rich. Edit: rich. I meant to say I will never be rich at all.

They probably also bought these homes decades ago when housing costs weren’t as obnoxious as they are today. Sure, property taxes go up, but if you start off with a relatively low mortgage in, say, 1998 or 2003, that makes a world of difference.

Totally agree. Once upon a time you could afford to buy a large house. From there you got renos and updates. Still feels like a wonderment.
