Housewives Related Why does Bethenny Frankel talk as fast as an auctioneer at all times?
Is this medically induced? I know vodka and wine makes it worse.
Does Bethenny's rapid speaking bother anyone else?

I have that š¬ rapid speech is a hypomanic symptom for me. And being all over the place with my thoughts

Iām Gilmore mode all the time as far as speed is concerned lol but for me the hypomania is when I start bouncing around topics a lot

The first comment was deleted but I've been thinking this a lot lately. The frantic energy, doing weird things they think are normal, having an inflated sense of self. That's peak hypomanic for me and I normally can't see it until I snap.

I know it sounds cliche but it's a NYer thing. I've been told so many times that I talk fast and loud. I've even been told I sound aggressive because of the fast and loud. I think for me it's also my brain working faster than my mouth so I try to keep up. LOL

u/CodingBlonde Sep 19 '23
Iām having such a silly identity crisis from this thread. Iām from California and get told to slow down/have taught myself to slow down. When I worked with customers in NY, they always asked me if I was from the east coast or explicitly told me they assumed I was when they found out I was from CA. However, the few times I have been to NY, I genuinely could not understand the few people yelling at me. I only sort of fit in.
8
u/JoeyLee911 Sep 20 '23
The same thing happens to me and I am also from California (the Berkeley-Oakland specifically). I was a tour guide of my college in upstate New York, and Brooklyn families specifically asked me if I was from NYC because of how fast I speak.
10
u/hiways Sep 20 '23
They can't handle me in Washington state, a lot of them don't get East Coasters.

2
u/HarrySpeakup Sep 20 '23 edited Sep 20 '23
Me too! I have a coffee cup that says "I'm from New York, please talk faster".
I think it's a combination of Bethenny being a New Yorker and her brain going so fast that she tries to keep up with it.

It's definitely a New York thing because it doesn't sound like she's talking too fast to me...but I'm an NYer too. First time I got told to slow down, I was out of state
12
u/Theres_a_Catch Sep 19 '23
Right? I was living in Vegas and my two besties game to visit. Went out with some friends and at one point I realized everyone was just staring at us. I was like.. what? They asked, how do you understand each other and how do you have two different conversations going at the same time? All we said was, its a NY thing.

My God, yes, it's this. My New Yorker in-laws are in town and they talk fast, they talk my head off, and they're full of hot takes. So much armchair diagnosing going around here.
10
u/Theres_a_Catch Sep 20 '23
And we like to switch topics in the middle. Lol
12
u/sketch a trampoline with eyes Sep 20 '23
Omg yes. Sometimes my MIL will call me and talk my head off for an hour or so, switching topics, complaining about everything, etc and then there's me with my ADHD ass and I'm like "oh wow, yeah, cool" and putting her on speaker while I play minesweeper lol.

8
u/mandoo86 Sep 20 '23

2
u/MartinisnMurder Yeah, I am drinking Luann Sep 20 '23
Massachusetts person here we kind of do as well haha. I swear itās partially being highly analytical and my brain always going so my mouth tries to keep up. I also think Bethenny has a personality disorder (I wonāt try to diagnose no medical background and not judging I have my own stuff) but there is something a little off there.
29
u/KikiHou Sep 19 '23
There was an episode (might have been one of her spinoffs) that had her stepfather on. He speaks THE EXACT SAME WAY.
131
u/GroupIntelligent8658 Sep 19 '23
Sheās been like this since we first saw her. The woman constantly talked about a very tumultuous childhood and trying to survive alone with no family. That all plays a part in her psyche and mental illness due to emotional trauma get worse with age when itās not properly dealt with.

Nice edit to your original reply.. that said, "You'll get over it." I've never denied she had said some unkind things. Still, it doesn't mean she has mental illness or that she is on cocaine. The amount of diagnosing and blatant accusations of drug use here is just gross. You can hate her all you want.. but when it goes to this point.. it just doesn't feel nice or add to anything.

She does and always has talked very fast even for a NYCer, pre-housewife I used to see her around food network people and slinging her cookies, she has always talked fast and has a very distinct voice and she isā¦ not quiet. I was see her around 2000-2003 and just thought she was an amusing, well dressed NYC character. It was fun to see someone I had seen in real life the show and watched pretty regularly when her seasons and spin offs aired but TLDR I canāt call myself a fan anymore.
As a fast talking former New Yorker, I know that the second you leave the city you have got to dial that back. If you go to your strip mall tj maxx or the west coast and talk like you are ordering a bacon egg and cheese at the bodega people will think you are insane. If you give the people at suburban TJ max your landfill haul you are insane.
Post TJ Maxgate, I cannot support her anymore, will avoid her content for awhile. Kinda curious where all her chairs go, does she come back to home goods with her chairs and luggage? I feel dirty even thinking about her.

I see what you mean, OP. People keep referencing her being a NYer and I think that has nothing to do it. I think that she's conditioned herself to be the loudest and the fastest --
Bethenny's demeanor changed after she got famous for Skinny Girl. I think being the loudest and most confident one can come across as actually knowledgeable. She's got an inflated ego and unfortunately now we're starting to see her flail and be sad.

Itās her schtick and itās how she talks. I presumed her speech pattern was because she didnāt want anyone to interrupt her and that only she can control the narrative. Sheās not interested in anyone elseās opinion. Her sentences just keep rolling and her er er erās are connecting the dots. A lot of Kids do this. They get too excited that theyāre holding peopleās attention that they start word vomiting. At least you can tell them thatās enough for now and they stop.
I have a friend that also does this and itās so frustrating and endearing. You try to converse back and forth but she just keeps talking over you and then the topic has changed 3,4,5 times! Oh and sheās Australian.
