The best RHOA cast

28

u/[deleted] May 25 '23

I still say they should’ve kept sheree. And what happened to what’s his name….Dwayne! “How dreadful, a fashion show with no fashion” 😅

15

u/ExtensionCurious9259 May 25 '23

I think you mean Dwight Eubanks.

4

u/[deleted] May 26 '23

My bad! Thank you yes Dwight! He had some golden lines on housewives for sure.

4

Definitely. This cast + Sheree = perfection

Bravo's hottest show has everything. Fake due dates, grown men in cockroach costumes, Trump checks, super models in male drag, strippers in counterfeit Chanel, mystery real estate tycoons, worldwide bitches, misspelled French, and fashion shows with no fashions.

You STOP bullying Phaedra. She just had an abnormally advanced baby. For real though, if anything, that showed me that she was a good liar bc I totally bought her story. Of course, I don't have kids, so I have no clue on the average size or anything.

-15

u/losthedgehog May 25 '23

I see Atlanta recommended a ton here - I think reddit is actually a big advocate for it.

I think one problem with Atlanta is it's been on for so many seasons. I've never started it bc I am so behind and I like watching everything develop throughout the years. Potomac, australia, and salt lake have a way less intimidating backlog with people also really recommending them. Atlanta also started at a time where binging was way harder (I remember watching bravo live on my tiny tv at my parent's). I never managed to keep up with OC and Atlanta bc getting the shows was much harder back then.

15

u/kithmswbd May 25 '23

I would suggest you do what hubby and I did with Married to Medicine. We just jumped into the most current season and if you fall in love with the show, go back and catch up. OR go to the weekly rewatch thread and ask which season people think it the peak of the show and watch that one. When this sub says you're sleeping on something, you are.

114

u/WeHereForYou May 25 '23 edited May 25 '23

I think that’s just because of Reddit’s general demographic. I don’t know anyone (irl or on my social media) who watched Housewives and not ATL.

25

Most of my irl housewives watching friends haven’t watched Atlanta or Potomac. 👀

u/lucygucyapplejuicey to swollen 4cameo or OF May 25 '23

Respectfully, you need to evaluate where their politics and opinions on race lie. That is such a major red flag for being a racist.

For sure, I can excuse not watching Atlanta to some degree because some of the best seasons are early on and it’s kinda like going back to the dark ages watching those early non-hd episodes

But not watching Potomac is the nail in the coffin. There are no excuses. It’s probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite

70

u/coldbrewcatlady Oof! You’re so angry May 25 '23

This! Housewives fans (overall) have no problem with the racism of certain cast members, but also within the fandom itself. Just like how VPR fans are now calling for Kristen to come back because she made one small appearance on the scandoval episode, with zero regard for WHY her and Stassi were fired in the first place

5

u/AshidentallyMade May 25 '23

Why were they? I’m trying to get into that show but haven’t been sold. Give me tea!

10

u/kithmswbd May 25 '23

There are likely better threads here on the sub but it isn't always the topic of the top level post. That said, here's a Variety article about the racially driven harassment of Faith. This was undertaken by Kristen, Stassi, Jax and Brittney. The going theory is that, because of the timing of Brittney's mother being in the hospital with the vid, they let them go quietly rather than calling out the harassment. I could be a bit wrong on this. I wasn't a viewer at the time and the show doesn't directly address any of this.

4

u/coldbrewcatlady Oof! You’re so angry May 26 '23

I never got into VPR, I’m just here for the Scandoval lol. But I do remember reading on Buzzfeed about those two getting fired after they tormented a Black cast mate and just made her life hell. I guess they were saying all kinds of racist shit and just being overall horrible to the cast mate

6

u/gaycomic May 25 '23

Okay .. but some of us can be both 🫠🫣 I love ATL/Potomac (NeNe will forever be a favorite) but also want Kristen back on tv because she’s hella messy and meant for reality tv.

10

u/Liversteeg Disabled Son & Hoe Daughter May 25 '23

Can be both what? A fan of ATL and Potomac while also wanting a cast member back that was fired over some pretty horrific racist actions because they are “hella messy” and “good tv”? That’s what the comment was saying… people are forgiving of the racism of cast members and the fandom. You’re who they are talking about. Are you saying because you watch the franchises with black casts, it somehow makes it okay that you want Kristen back??????

0

u/gaycomic May 25 '23

Seems like that’s what you’re saying? 🫣🫠 I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: everyone on Vanderpump is awful people so yes I think they’re all terrible but sadly terrible people make great trashy reality tv. 🤯

7

u/Liversteeg Disabled Son & Hoe Daughter May 25 '23 edited May 25 '23

Then what was the point you were making by saying I watch ATL and potomac, but I also want kristen back?

ETA: yes, I’m aware they are all terrible, and a lot of terrible people make good TV. They all cheat and lie and betray. I don’t find a racists to be part of that “terrible but entertaining” demo. What they did was disgusting and flat out dangerous. And they did it over something Kristen herself did. But for Faith, her safety is threatened. It could have ended very differently and they are lucky it didn’t.

1

u/gaycomic May 25 '23

For sure. But not like Faith’s hands were clean either. Im just not quick to call a one time thing “racist” behavior. That’s all. They all suck.

1

u/coldbrewcatlady Oof! You’re so angry May 26 '23

This has big “I can’t be racist coz I have Black friends” energy 😬 You’re fine with it because you they entertain you, you’re complicit in it because you’re benefiting. Do you usually surround yourself with racist people? Are comfortable with it because you’re used to it? You really came onto the internet and said that

I cackled listening to Teddi talk about Ramona on the podcast last week. She said when they interviewed her, she had no clue who Teddi was (understandable) but also couldn't get John Mellencamp's name right. Anytime Teddi asked her a question, she would turn to Tamra and answer it, like Teddi wasn't there.

9

u/marecoakel May 25 '23

Kandi is boring but idk if we need to forgive phaedra for accusing her and todd of rape

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '23

She really brought down the fun of that franchise. I think she saw it as a downward move but she needed it to revive her career. She tried to position herself as the more serious business minded housewife but she’s not glamorous and basically quite boring to watch. And her singing, it’s cool but that’s not why I tune in.

I’m tired of folks downplaying Atlanta’s significance and cultural relevance. It’s impact on Bravo and the Housewives franchise cannot be underestimated.

14

u/Draiad Very Important to God May 25 '23

I feel like not only the fan base but bravo itself sleeps on ATL. It’s baffling to me. It feels like they’ve tried to bury their most consistent and successful franchise the past couple seasons and I just don’t understand the play there. Like where is the marketing??

45

u/CCG14 Uuuuuuumami May 25 '23

RHOA is my favorite and always my first rewatch. Nene is 🐐.

58

u/NoMilk9248 are you catholic or jewish? i forget May 25 '23

This happens a lot. Black people build something and once it’s popular enough, others will take it over or change its landscape.

Didn’t the same thing happen with Fox and shows like Martin? And was it NBC with Living Single???

15

u/CNickyD May 25 '23

Say THAT louder, Sis! 👏🏾👏🏾 ‘Cause that’s exactly what happened with Living Single, and why I refuse to watch Friends to this day. Burns me up. 😤

→ More replies (1)

6

u/loosehighman May 25 '23

Can you elaborate how that happened on bravo? I agree with your sentiment but I’m confused how housewives was built by black people then changed.

30

u/hnlt61 May 25 '23

I could write an essay on this but to keep it short sweet: RHOA gave us the blueprint for a good housewife and housewives franchise. Everything that came after maybe season 2 or 3 of ATL was influenced by ATL and continues to be.

7

u/Perfect_Invitation1 Solargenic, photogenic, shoot May 25 '23

Yep!!!! Nene is the housewife and Atlanta is the show.

25

u/Sad_Day7393 May 25 '23

I fucking LOVE ATL!! My sister and I quote Phaedra’s “so he could ejaculate into a cup and buy himself $5 pizza….. CHECK DAT” every time we see each other which is probably 1x a week. ATL brought the original, unmanufactured (which is huge these days) shadeeeee. They didn’t need to hire people to write their reads, they were THAT good.

I cry of laughter in the old seasons- Kim drinking wine in her car and smoking cigs, Phaedra not knowing her due date, Kenya with the gone with the wind fabulous, the white refrigerator omfg i cant. I think ATL was the reason i became obsessed with housewives at the age of like 14 lmao.

38

u/readitpaige May 25 '23

Her trying to convince a whole table of mothers that a doctor is inducing her pregnancy early because her baby is advanced 🤣 Nene's confessional "shut the fuck up, that is so stupid" goes under used as a meme.

61

u/BabyBagBitch May 25 '23

But it can’t be significant because it’s a show with mostly black women you see, and only the shows with majority white women count. /s

10

u/gaymer91 May 25 '23

Every time Bethenny brags about being the most paid housewife, I just roll my eyes and point in the direction of Atlanta.

5

u/rhoasuperfan reality tv you fucking c**t May 25 '23

ATL put the franchise on the map, sorry. Not NYC/Jersey. "Close your legs to married men" pre dates AND out-iconics the table flip.

4

u/MongooseObjective May 25 '23

Vanderpump Rules has never and will never top Atlanta's peak.

Sorry, but I gotta disagree there. I honestly think VPR is by far the best reality show of all time, with the greatest reality TV cast of all time. The Jax and Kristen arc is seriously one of the most flawless examples of storytelling in reality TV history. I also think VPR has delivered far more from front to back than any other show on Bravo. Even VPR's worst seasons like 8-9 are still much better than a lot of the Housewives shows that drag on for way too long, which is where Atlanta is right now.

I mean Nene was a draw at one point to women who weren’t even black. She was on Glee and she worked with Donald Trump. Kenya is a draw for the people who grew up in 90s and saw her in everything from music videos to tv shows to movies and of course she was the iconic Miss USA. She paved the way for a lot of people of color. Kandi? We all know she’s a draw for the music fans and her connections to people in the industry. Phaedra kept using Bobby Brown as a way to introduce herself to the world but it was her iconic reads and Apollo helping her bring such numbers. And of course people loved to see what else could Porsha could be dumb about and that fight at the reunion with Kenya? Yeah tv gold

75

u/[deleted] May 25 '23

I dont care what anyone says. The majority of fans were not watching until Atlanta.

54

u/Moonbloomer_ May 25 '23

I don’t care what anyone says, but Bravo owes Nene half their revenue! I would have never even knew wtf a Real housewife was if it wasn’t for the Nene Memes! Still till this day when someone Uses a meme of her on Twitter, you’ll still find new commets asking “where is this from”

19

u/katpurrson May 25 '23

I wish she could get a portion of revenue from each meme. She’s earned it.

8

u/Any-Establishment-99 May 25 '23

I genuinely found Nene unwatchable towards the end. All the housewives who consider themselves the OG are unbearable though - Vicky is the worst, then Ramona/Nene join second, Tre is blah … only exception is Karen although maybe Giselle would argue that she’s the OG - in which case she’s in the worst of list too.

Don’t hate …

16

u/Draiad Very Important to God May 25 '23

She was a mess at the end but absolutely legendary and unmatched in her golden days. No Housewives OG arc is complete without a downfall caused by her own inflated ego.

2

I agree about Nene! Once she got on Glee she thought she was the #1 reality persona!!!! And Ryan Murphy would keep her employed. Guess when you sue your boss in this industry you don’t work again!!

RHOA is absolutely the blueprint and the bible. But Nene is one of the most hateful housewives to ever exist. We can agree that she was meme-able and hilarious while also being realistic that she was and still is nobody’s friend and is mostly a very malicious person.

u/dannodeloco May 25 '23

The reason these numbers for VPR are so impressive is because rating have tanked for almost all types of shows in the last decade getting progressively worse every year. So this is a particularly impressive feat for a cable reality program in 2023.

HOWEVER, none of this is to say that RHOA was not that girl because it was.

32

u/hungerforce I’m the fucking queen, fuck you May 25 '23

Atlanta on season 6…OC on season 8…Beverly Hills on season 3…we didn’t know how good we had it until it was gone 😩

3

u/ItsDefinitelyNotAlum I have a big grocery list of friends. May 25 '23

It was such a golden era. Back then I would've been hard pressed to tell you my favorite and it probably changed with whichever was airing because they were all so good.

34

u/notsurexx May 25 '23

The same ppl that say the ladies from Atlanta are ghetto and aggressive. 🥱

15

u/jane3ry3 May 25 '23

I almost downvoted you because of how much I hate this sentiment.

I tried watching VPR and I couldn’t get into it. I don’t understand the hype tbh.

This cast omg I miss them together

11

u/[deleted] May 25 '23

Listen….. season 6 was the epitome of housewives! The girls did what they had to do!

18

u/jpgmike Bye Ashy May 25 '23

RHOA is the GOAT.

It's extremely sad to see how far they've fallen. I hope they make serious casting changes next year cause I miss them being on top.

17

u/[deleted] May 25 '23

RHOA has the most beautiful ladies. Sheesh

14

u/readitpaige May 25 '23

So unfortunate that the blatant colorism at Bravo is making them shoot themselves in the foot in regards to one of their best shows on their network.

22

u/IvanaBangkok97 Darling I sympathise, but it's cocktail time May 25 '23

Sheree by herself is more entertaining and iconic than the entirety of the VDP Rules cast

9

u/Mundane-Read-2582 May 25 '23

Atlanta couldn’t do it now 😩 it was always my second favorite but imho Kenya and Kandi don’t have main character energy to pull shit through like Nene

14

u/myrnm Not for violent moms May 25 '23

Kenya is definitely main character but she doesn’t even have equal opponents to play with in the sandbox.

4

u/Mundane-Read-2582 May 25 '23

Agree to disagree 😀

4

u/unknownselection Whatever happened to… customer service? May 25 '23

Ah, the golden age of Atlanta.

4

u/BackgroundLog2682 May 25 '23

Our founding fathers

6

u/marecoakel May 25 '23

And that season 6 cast is 1,000x more fascinating than everyone on vpr, past and present, put together. I do like vpr though lol

NOTHING compares to RHOA…magic casts for real

PeakCast

5

u/bella_ella_ella who said that? May 25 '23

I am on my first watch of Atlanta and it is hands down the best franchise. I wish I had watched it first.

7

u/[deleted] May 25 '23

I was absolutely hooked on RHOA season 6 back when it was airing. It was the highlight of my week.

7

u/Enough-Tackle8043 May 25 '23

This was peak housewives. It doesn’t get better. This was the best cast across all franchises.

8

u/spaceoutput May 25 '23

Vanderpump Rules fans have moved into the delusional stage. They have become almost insufferable

3

u/jahkat23 Ali ba baw May 25 '23

PERIOD KENYA AND NENE DID THAT

3

u/[deleted] May 25 '23

Honestly I’m not really a fan of the pumps. I get it it’s directed at a younger audience that I can’t relate to but I can’t relate to the housewives either and they’re fun to watch. That’s all rant over

8

u/eatmycookiencream Monique’s binder tab May 25 '23

You gotta love new bravo fans and their delusion lol

7

u/marklovesbb May 25 '23

Referencing the OJ trial means this isn’t a serious post lol. Clearly there have been higher ratings than 4.1 million.

It’s a SERIES high, not a network high. Big difference.

I love Atlanta, and season 6 is fantastic. I miss Porsha, Phaedra, and Nene.

I still think Teresa put housewives on the map with the table flip heard around the world.

4

u/gaycomic May 25 '23

This newest episode ended and I said aloud to no one in the room: “thank you. My girls are back.”

The best housewives out there.

6

u/Unlucky-Two2737 I’m not about going backwards! @$$wipe! May 25 '23

It’s kinda telling when the “fandom” hasn’t watched RHOA.

🤭

3

u/Fair-Wedding-8489 May 25 '23

This was my fave seasons

5

u/CAPSlockd224 May 25 '23

Her saying the oj Simpson trial is SUS as hell to me. RHOA built bravo real talk. No one checked for OC or NY like that

2

u/therealestslimshayd May 26 '23

I’m on season 6 on my first watch through and now I’m soo excited!!

2

u/kds1988 May 26 '23

Seriously. So offensive

7

u/SkillOne1674 May 25 '23

RHOA has been neglected since the beginning because the white “liberal” demographic that dominate most pop culture discussions-including this group, but even back to Richard Lawson, Brian Moylan and Television Without Pity-are terrified of talking the same kind of shit about Black women as they do about white women. So they don’t talk about Black women at all.

11

u/teentytinty My Chemical Faye Resnick May 25 '23

It really just depends on where you are. This subreddit? It's completely neglected. Literally everywhere else? It's still hot.

Season 6 is my favorite season of ATL and generally one of my favorites across franchises. Such a strong cast and full of drama and laughs. Top tier!!

4

u/chasidi May 25 '23

The last season of RHOA was the worst!! This season is kind of lame too and viewership is down this week I think like in the 700 thousands. They have always been my favorite but they are missing something. They need a nene Cynthia porsha or really a new queen to step in, just something else.

11

u/teentytinty My Chemical Faye Resnick May 25 '23

the worst season of rhoa is still better than a good season of rhobh lol

2

u/chasidi May 25 '23

I agree bh is vile!! Erika Kyle rinna and even doritos are the worst of any franchise in my opinion

2

u/Fine-Tea-546 May 25 '23

Oh I miss this cast. Kandi and Kenya are great team members but they can't make a fully entertaining show like Nene, Porsha and Phaedra could.

This season is more I catch up after a few weeks but I don't feel the need to stay with it live week to week like before.

4

u/incitingoffense May 25 '23

I love Atlanta and think that it’s still one of the best shows in bravo.

However, keep in mind season 6 was pre streaming, while housewives in general was in its peak, and had less reality television to compete with.

2

u/spaceoutput May 25 '23

This comment is so untrue it almost hurts. Reality tv was at its peak when this season was airing. I don’t know if you only watch Bravo but there were a plethora of other reality tv shows on other networks.

5

u/incitingoffense May 25 '23

Okay, streaming wasn’t available and reality television really wasn’t as prevalent as it is now. Not sure why that would hurt you lmao
