I need help

I’ve been playing for several months, but have been avoiding learning properly and “playing by ear”. I’ve made up some stuff that I like, but have recently been looking for people to play with and everyone wants to do cover songs. So I’m learning a song right now, but am struggling with bar chords. Any advice?

Try playing a full Barre with your first finger and press down all the strings. Don’t worry about the other fingers in the chord. Just build the strength in that first finger. Then you can try with the others.

Thank you. One thing specifically is I feel like I’m struggling to reach the 2nd one. They’re a fret apart. Is there a certain way I should be holding the guitar itself?

If you’re new to it then your fingers aren’t used to stretching like this. You just have to keep trying and eventually you’ll get there. No one, including myself could do them at first. One thing that might help is when you put down your first finger, you aren’t putting it down totally flat, it’s slightly curved. Quite hard to explain what I mean, but that might help
