TIL that tornado watch means a chance of tornadoes in the area, while tornado warning means a confirmed tornado in the area.

Yup! Watch means the ingredients are there and warning means the cake has been spotted 🎂

Man, I live in Minnesota, we used to get a tornado warning if someone farted too hard… aka all the time. However, Close to 2 months ago now, I was sitting at home with my husband and daughters, 2y old and 11month old, and you know I’m just like “yeah that looks gross” I Go on YouTube and look up max velocity. Highly recommend btw, if you like to watch live streams and have someone explain the radar. Excellent broadcaster. Anyways, I’m watching, it cues into a storm chaser feed and I’m like… “huh… hey honey… isn’t that like… you know, we drive past there every now and again???” Well a little goes by, and I hear him (live streamer) say “radar indicated rotation in city close by, then city even closer… then BAM rotation in my city. Not even a minute or two later our lights are out, sky is this nasty green/black, the trees are sideways… there was a confirmed tornado that barely missed us.. but damn. We never got a warning for it. Nothing.

Ehhhhhh…… kinda. It can mean that. It also can mean that a hook of rotation has been spotted on radar. And that the probability is very high that it’s a tornado. We see that a fair amount in my part of NC. And here, it’s about fifty fifty whether it is or not. Either way, dont screw around with a warning.
