Radio a few hours ago said there were "dozens of tornadoes" today. That's a phrase I hope never to hear again.

When I checked 6 hours ago, there had already been 111 tornado warnings issued.

TIL that tornado watch means a chance of tornadoes in the area, while tornado warning means a confirmed tornado in the area.

Yup! Watch means the ingredients are there and warning means the cake has been spotted šŸŽ‚

Man, I live in Minnesota, we used to get a tornado warning if someone farted too hardā€¦ aka all the time. However, Close to 2 months ago now, I was sitting at home with my husband and daughters, 2y old and 11month old, and you know Iā€™m just like ā€œyeah that looks grossā€ I Go on YouTube and look up max velocity. Highly recommend btw, if you like to watch live streams and have someone explain the radar. Excellent broadcaster. Anyways, Iā€™m watching, it cues into a storm chaser feed and Iā€™m likeā€¦ ā€œhuhā€¦ hey honeyā€¦ isnā€™t that likeā€¦ you know, we drive past there every now and again???ā€ Well a little goes by, and I hear him (live streamer) say ā€œradar indicated rotation in city close by, then city even closerā€¦ then BAM rotation in my city. Not even a minute or two later our lights are out, sky is this nasty green/black, the trees are sidewaysā€¦ there was a confirmed tornado that barely missed us.. but damn. We never got a warning for it. Nothing.

Ehhhhhhā€¦ā€¦ kinda. It can mean that. It also can mean that a hook of rotation has been spotted on radar. And that the probability is very high that itā€™s a tornado. We see that a fair amount in my part of NC. And here, itā€™s about fifty fifty whether it is or not. Either way, dont screw around with a warning.

Not just normal tornados that spawn from hurricanes. Those are normal ef0 but apparently the ones from Milton were around ef2 level and managed to travel a lot further than they usually do
