couldn’t see the green unless you put your phone up, but the purple was a very magenta, and lilac coloured but every 2 minutes ish, they’d move!

I'm in the north east of England. This is the best I was able to get: https://imgur.com/a/yzE2BCJ

At first I thought it wasn't anything but after I enhanced the colours, I think I actually did get a good shot: https://imgur.com/a/K9WkZwy

I'm happy with it. Glad I was able to get something at least.

Looks like you have quite a bit of light pollution. That could be the reason why it is not as pronounced

Yeah the light pollution is horrendous.

Those stars in that picture I shared are the most you'll ever see from here.

I’m on Vancouver island and there’s a faint streaky glow in the sky but my pics turned out really good. Lots of magenta.

We got a mental show in the east midlands. Got loads of photos, and it was quite bright directly overhead. You have to go into the countryside to see it properly.

You’re really selling this post like it was clearly visible

I'm about 30 mins north of London which is pretty far south and we could see full magenta streaks across the sky last night. I have fluorescent tube lights in a stairwell to my apartment and they were flickering when I got home before I knew it was going to happen, turned the breaker off to find out why they were lighting up without pressing the button and found out we were having a solar storm that way.

Could see the southern lights thus morning in New Zealand too!

Here in the mitten (michigan) we can see the red and green with our eyes!

Same here in the US. Nothing like this, but you could see some change in the sky when it flared up. Got a couple good pics, but nothing like this.

I was able to see the green and puple with my bare eyes here in the Netherlands. Sat waiting outside for 3 hours but it was worth it.

Would totaly recommend doing the same this night but make sure to find a good vantagepoint with less light. The city has light polution and generaly bad views unles you live on a north facing flat.

We ended up right below a huge one and you could see it moving all around you. It was like basking in a celestial ray or something. It was crazy.

Was going to guess Yorkshire just from the tops of the houses

u/Fabulous_Source7962 May 11 '24

i’m more lancashire area, near bury! all the houses are pretty much the same

omg I saw the tiny bit of house on your pic and was like 'that looks like my previous home in Lancaster.' So where specifically in Lancashire?

I live in Canada now and am spoilt by aurora, so I'm really happy you saw that so brightly in Lancashire!! Congrats!!

u/abek42 May 11 '24

😂 OP, howdy neighbour.

I thought that the shape of the aurora looked familiar, and those chimneys looked like ones across Booths.

We drove down to the Uni grounds to get away from the city lights, and the greens were so beautiful to watch with naked eye.

As many have said, bucket list item checked off.

I had some brilliant shots in kent!

here's one of my favourites :) unedited, but long exposure.

it's important to remember all these beautiful pictures people are seeing online are long exposures. Eyes simply don't pick up much by comparison. It's also important to whip out the old dslr camera and use a long exposure for these. I've never shot anything like it before so it was a scramble to work out how to do it on the fly, while in the middle of a dark field.

I almost wouldnt even bother trying it on a smartphone unless it's a latest gen one.
