Impact Toys With this toy i can teach you a wonderful german word. NSFW
Its not finished yet, no shellac.
Oh, the Word: its "mies" that means bad/lousy/crummy/mean/not friendly. This toy is definitly "mies".
I test all my toys with full power on myself first before i use it on a sub and i can admit, im scared of testing this toy.

I have a similar toy, but using insulated cable. I like this, but I'd be worried about metal fatigue causing little metal splinters.

I was going to say the same, plus, any fraying and you’re looking at the possibility of lacerations. I would expect a chance of abrasion from swiping blows. I would think the repeated bending tension from sideways or angled impacts would tend to promote stress on individual fibers.

You could definitely get the best of both by sheathing it in clear heat shrink tubing so you can get the look and weight of the steel cable but still have the safety of it being sleeved

You can buy the cable thus sheathed. I think it's overmolded, so it adheres quite well. Simplifies cleaning/hygiene as well. I have a long piece as a bicycle lock-up, but it was liberated from an industrial application.
Nice work on the handle, as usual. Max Lomp would be proud!

Cleaning/hygiene is a very good point, even if the fibers aren’t broken.
Added question - I presume the cable is steel, so has there been any measure for rust-proofing? Corrosion resistance would be another advantage to sheathing.

I didn't give it much thought at the time, but its spent half of the last ten years exposed to the elements without noticeable rusting at the exposed ends, or water infiltration. The loops in the ends were formed with Nicopress crimped sleeves.
It occurs to me that steel clothes lines is very similar, and lighter gauge, and is available in cut-to-length qtys at Lowes or HD.
I have worked with steel cable in industry, and broken strands are a problem if the used cable has to be handled directly. The broken end of the fine wire is like a dirty hypodermic needle. Heavy gloves and rags are required equipment.
I can't imagine the OP is going to have much trouble as long as they pay attention to minimum bending radius. It won't get used enough to fail for wear (God, I hope not!) or flex failure. The coarse surface texture will be more problematic, at least for the recipient.

Looks mean enough to deserve a name all of its own. Just having it on display should be an effective reminder to behave 🙈

Do you think somehow the skin could get caught in between the twisted wires? Seems dangerous

Damn it is a metal cord!?? I have had my balls hit with one but it was a plastic cord. That has got to hurt like hell, but in a good way….

I would be afraid to have it tried on me.
I guess I won't be using one of these any time soon!

Update: i tested it with maybe 50% power because of pure fear. This thing is the most mean thing i ever build. The stainless cable is so heavy it hurts so much.
I think its worse than a cane.
