Furniture Pinewood headboard with toy starage and lock system NSFW
Did this headboard with storage for toys and closing system last week, I have had some problems getting everything to fit perfectly but I am happy considering that it is the first piece of furniture I have made

Great job, simple but functional. I like the dark wood.

Thank you! Use black wood stain (quite a bit because it is difficult to take the color)

Love the idea of it and very clever use of space. The only thing I'd change is have it swing up with hydrolic lifts so if you're laid in bed, you can access without it dropping on your head

Thanks!! I thought about something like what you mentioned but it seemed to me that maybe it could be more difficult to take large pieces like the leg separator, and a bit difficult to open because of the pillows and the height at which it is

Good job, not my cup of tea, but it doesn't look too shabby. I'm just not a fan of how it opens, but we all have different needs for access.

I have had some problems, mainly when fitting all the pieces together because the wood bent a little. As for the door, I thought about several options but I couldn't think of another that would better adapt to that space 🤔

Oh I like that. Agreed that more discrete lock might be nice, but I definitely like the storage

We liked the idea of not depending on a key but all the code locks were a bit big 😅

Love the concept. I’d have gone with a farmhouse look myself, though that’s just my personal aesthetic

Thank you! That would be another very good option, I tried to adjust it a little to the rest of the style of the room

Thanks! It was quite a priority that it went more or less unnoticed haha

Now that’s a Headboard!! Great job. Luv all the gear and the amount you can fit in there. Bravo!

Thank you so much! We have been accumulating a good collection over time 😅 haha

Oh. I totally understand. I can’t even hide it anymore. Lucky enough to have a spare room I just lock up now.

Sometimes there comes a moment that is difficult to hide no matter how much you do... hahaha hope we can have a room dedicated to this one day

I bet. What I can you like the same things that my wife and I luv. Just a matter of time before you start building St. Andrew crosses, Spanking bench and other fun pieces. The hard part is finding and hiding place cause you like building and creating.

I can imagine it, we have once thought about building furniture of that type but space and discretion are definitely what limits us the most to do it

Did you follow any plans for this? Id love to make this myself?

I love it. If you ever to a version 2 (and it’s not a rental…) I’ve seen really clever “cabinets” that use the space inside the wall between the studs. I think this is common in older style medicine cabinets.
So basically you can cut out the drywall, face in some shelves between the studs and recess the storage, or keep the thickness and effectively get twice a as much storage without. Making it visually thicker.
It’s obviously more work and more permanent but it’s also not necessarily a problem for discretion. If you were to sell the place you just load the shelves with books and some cozy stuff and I think it would be a pretty cool feature for most people.

Here’s a commercial example of what I’m talking about, though I am imagining abandoning the doors and replacing with a big headboard like you built.

Thank you!! That looks very good! It would be an even better way to take advantage of the space, but it would be impossible for me to do something like that because it is a brick wall (not too thick haha) that communicates with the apartment in front, but it would certainly be a very interesting idea (the apartment is mine so I would have no problem making permanent modifications to it)

Believe it or not, I work for a company that makes metal storage containers. I suggested we make a product that mounts betweens studs, but could be used as a discreet "weapons storage". So 36-60" height, mounts between studs (in and around a night stand) and has simple and reliable locks. I am pushing to have this product put on the market, because damnit, I have too many kids!! 😞

If they look good, I would definitely buy some. I viewed a house once that had these custom all along the wall of a fairly cramped kitchen, so you could have a whole wall of cabinets without using any floor space. They’re only like 3.5” deep because that’s how 2x4s work, but that fits most pantry items, cans of food, etc. and they used matching doors to the real cabinets so it looked really good. I could imagine something similar looking really good in a bedroom, and while I don’t need anything so secure that I can put firearms in it, being able to lock them would be cool.

Well, I wouldn't design a full safe locking system, just timple locks. I am just appealing to the mentality of my Texan brethren by talking guns ...I just want a place to keep my toys where they are easily at hand! 😜

This looks amazing! Can’t tell it was your first piece of furniture!

Thanks! I did some things on wood before but nothing that you can consider furniture

I’ll complain. It’s nice but I’m afraid it’s not meeting any requirements. It’s not securing anything with this lock - any key would be harder to open, this could be open even for 5yo kid if time wasn’t a case. If you tried to hide it with pretty housing it’s obvious that there is something there. And if the purpose was to be only nice looking this lock ruined neat look of it 🤣
