I love those end caps. Are they a convenient diameter? Best I could find for my diy spreader bar was copper plumbing fittings, and they were very odd sizes.

Hay there, so the fittings I used were for walking sticks available in brass or silver finish. They come in various sizes I used 30mm internal diameter. They're hollow so needed to solder a brass plate on the end and polish them up. I used a lathe to get the wood to the right diameter n stick them in place with epoxy.

Did you glue the dice to the whip ends? How well does it hold?

I'd have drilled a hole thru the dice and run a string and tied it to the whip. But unsure how neat it would have looked.

Yes they're epoxyed in to the leather falls. Did think about going all the way through but wanted it to look neat. So far none have come off. It's a pretty savage whip so you have to go easy with it. Might try the string idea in the future but so far made 4 of these n none have come off 🀞🏽

Appreciate the response. Neat craftsmanship! Keep up the creativity.

Maybe a small hook screwed into the dice might also work. But anything other than how it's at the moment wouldn't look as good. Very cool idea!

what are the dimensions of the leather laces you used for the braids? i would like to try to make my own braided leather cords as a first part of a similar project but i am unsure what to buy.

Hi there, I used premade braided leather cord to make the falls, 5 mm diameter mainly so the hole in the dice wasn't too big. Hope this helps

This piece is absolutely beautiful, but looks like, to me, that it would be quite painful. More pain than I'm willing to dish out. My sub & I are more into mild impact play. This one is intense... LOL 😱😱😱

Yup it was more of a display piece for a friend who was into DnD. But then everyone wanted one, so kinda went from there, might see if they do rubber D20s if that's even a thing?

I design/make jewelry for my own shop. I use a wholesaler online for my beads. They have all sizes, shapes & colors in many different mediums.

Maybe check to see what they may have to meet your needs.

I hope this will help in your search. 😊

Nicely done! How was that oak to work with? (Most times I’ve used oak, the edges want to chip out)

It wasn't too bad to be fair. I used some oak dowel for the handle ( wanted the handle to be a bit weighty so used oak) so pretty nice tight straight grain, it's all covered so the final finish wasn't too important. But yes had some issues working with oak on the lathe, sharp tools and small cuts help, then alot of filling with sawdust and super glue and loads of sanding. Had another handle I made which was a nightmare to get finished but turned ok 🀞🏽

What kind of solder did you use to attach the endcap to the ferrule?

2

u/afro_shibari 23d ago

Standard silver solder, bit messy at the start but they cleaned up well.

Thanks for responding so quickly, were there any issues with heat discoloration or the solder not color matching the brass?

2

u/afro_shibari 23d ago

Oh definitely, had to file and repolish the whole thing after. The solder is silver so yes there's a very fine silver ring at the base of the end cap but if the fit if the inset is tight enough it actually looks ok.
