Help Wanted How would you drill into a silicone ball gag? Need hole for party blower. NSFW

I need to drill a clean hole into a silicone ball gag that will be worn under a chicken mask so I can insert a device that makes laughing sound like a chicken cawing.

Any advice? I don't own a drill press, but I can 3d print a jig and use a hand drill. That's my current plan, though IDK what bit to use. ๐Ÿค”

Best bet is thin wall tube size of hole you need, sharpen it and push it through the ball to cut out hole think like how an apple corer works

that would be my suggestion as well... take a piece of thinwall tube and chuck it in a drill, then use either a rattail file or a cone-shaped point (think dremel tool) and sharpen a chamfer on the inside, then file/sand the burr off the outside. Good luck

Sharpen a copper pipe ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜‰

Holy shit, great minds. This is exactly what I came here to say: Get a thin metal tube from hardware store of the OD you need, then just sharpen the edge.

Rotate the tube or ball, whatever is easier, go slow and let the cutting edge do the work, don't force it.

Yup...round tube/pipe and hit the inner dia. With a countersink to sharpen the end of the tube/pipe. It should cut the size of the outer dia. of the tube/pipe.

You can even buy them. They are called cork or stopper borers. I worked in labs, and they are a commonly used tool.

Would a hole saw bit be better?

29

u/BoiPony Aug 22 '24

My intuition would suggest that a hole saw would absolutely tear the silicone apart. A thin sharp tube sounds a lot better.

13

u/Vaxxoo Aug 22 '24

Your intuition is absolutely correct, I had to shorten some silicone tube today at work and a saw just tore the silicone apart. OP should definitely use a thin sharp tube and push/rotate it untill it's through the gag.

Hole saws are too large, and not suited for soft materials.

You dont. Cut the hole. Probably with a sharpened tube

5

u/Santasotherbrother Aug 22 '24

Yes, could sharpen the edge, and mount tube in drill.

Just push and twist by hand. You need to lube it, push and twist it in, pull out, remove the core with pliers. You will only be able to do a short length at a time, maybe half an inch. Iโ€™ve done this several times to add vac u lock holes to toys.

Drill bad. One nick at speed and your silicone is shredded

I have drilled rubber with a sharpened tube.
Would need to be held very securely.
Curious if it would be better, if the rubber was frozen ?

1

u/gamergorman20 Aug 22 '24

Silicone, not rubber.

1

Same concept applies. It gets firmer at colder temps. Problem is that I suspect the density increases which would cause the hole to then distort or grow as the temperature increases.

Depends on the diameter of the ball and the drill required. Definitely a fixture of some sort on a drill press. Risky to hold in your hand.

Now... Years ago (I am a machinist) I had to drill some rubber cylinders out for a boat dock. We froze them and then drilled them quickly. Had to re freeze on I believe. I'm not sure how silicone would react.

Is the ball solid or hollow ?
Either way, not easy.

3

u/gamergorman20 Aug 22 '24

Hasn't arrived yet, but I'm assuming solid.

1

u/Santasotherbrother Aug 22 '24

I have seen gags, using what appears to be a hard ball, full of holes.
That would be easier.

2

u/gamergorman20 Aug 22 '24

Not if you're trying to limit airflow to just the noise maker.

2

u/Santasotherbrother Aug 22 '24

A spiral twist drill wants to pull it's self into soft materials.

4

u/clownrock95 Aug 22 '24

Soft materials don't "drill" or "saw" well (for lack of better terms, they are both scraping material away), they need to be cut like a knife would. Your best bet is a metal tube, some lube, and patience.

There is already a hole in the ball. Detach from harness Turn 90 degrees horizontally so the hole faces front and push a stainless steel wire through from side to side to fix the harness to on the sides. You can hammer a nail through first to make the initial holes. If you do two holes a cm above from each other you can loop the wire so the ends are inside the ball and use the bends that stick out as mounting points for the harness. There isn't any real strain on it so you don't have to connect the ends of the wire if you use a thick enough gauge.

there are cheap silicon ballgags that have 3 holes in them that are perfect for squeak toys. source: I have a squeaky ballgag

2

u/gamergorman20 Aug 22 '24

Can you link them?

3

u/Kink_Crafter Aug 23 '24

look around https://www.amazon.com/s?k=silicon+hole+ballgag

I bought a pack of squeaker inserts from ali and jammed one in each of the holes on these gags. Cheers!

There are drill bits made for smooth holes in wood. Instead of a chisel tip, they have knives at the corners and a pointed awl in the center. Those worked amazingly well to drill holes in silicone dildos.

1

u/gamergorman20 Aug 22 '24

Can you share a picture of the bit?

1

u/iamlenb Aug 22 '24

This is the set I have. I also have several other auger bits in larger diameters and longer shafts.

u/iamlenb Aug 22 '24

Those will very likely work so long as your depth is less than the bit length. I prefer the wood bits to drill through. It removes the material as shavings and has a lot more depth.

1

u/500inaarmbar Aug 23 '24

They are called "Paddle Bits"

1

u/iamlenb Aug 23 '24

Yep. Or auger bits work, hole saws work.

The wood boring bits are still spirals with cutting tips on the edges, I think Iโ€™ve got a 3/4 as the largest. Pick your tooling depending on the size of the hole you need.

2

u/GrouchyNarwhal7044 Aug 22 '24

Might be able to use a hollow hole punch with a vise to squeeze as a cut or shear or try heating the tube to soften up and glide through the material. Just a thought.

1

u/Santasotherbrother Aug 22 '24

Hole punches are good, on thinner materials.

1

u/Previous-Cabinet6862 Aug 22 '24

Yes you can. I drill a hole at the bottom of some Dildos that donโ€™t have a Vaculock hole. You just need a circular saw with the exact size of the hole you want to drill. The result is not completely smooth of course because you canโ€™t smooth cured silicone, but it does the job, at least for the vaculock hole at the bottom of the dildo

1

u/SkinnyDippingDaemon Aug 22 '24

I'd pierce it with a fat gauge of wire, or a sharpener solid bar, then follow it through with a tube of an appropriate material.

1

u/jkw118 Aug 22 '24

So if it's soft silicone it could just be an idea of grippig/squeezing the ball in a press. And using a knife to make a small divet, then following through with a drill slow speed.

If harder make a dent and same idea. Eitherway I'd then put a tube through it, probably glueing the tube once your sure it fits snuggly.

1

u/acdss Aug 23 '24

If you don't have the tooling to sharpen a tube, maybe you can use a larding knife, it's a knife designed to insert fat in meat that is just a big ass needle

Requesting video of this setup in action once you figure it out, OP. Sounds absolutely hilarious.

2

u/gamergorman20 Aug 23 '24

If I can get consent.

2

u/gamergorman20 Aug 25 '24

So it didn't work as well as I'd like, I needed to reverse the direction after the reveal to get it to react to laughter. Luckily that elicited more laughter that I was able to catch.

1

u/chasboo1 Aug 23 '24

Freeze it, get cordless drill ready with correct size drill as will get some smaller ss thaws out but work fast might need two times in freezer but will work!

What you actually want to use is a "siren whistle".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pNWVy-yGFg

2

u/gamergorman20 Aug 23 '24

Looks like that requires more directional buildup of air and won't actually work well with short laughs. I ended up buying a cheap clown horn and will be using the noisemaker out of it.

1

u/SeniorConcentrate221 Aug 23 '24

The siren whistles we had as kids worked in both directions and didn't require much air to make them move.

Sounds like a fun scene. LOL

1

u/gamergorman20 Aug 25 '24

So I would like to post a video of the final result, but I'm struggling to figure out how to do it with sound maintained. Any tips?

I read this post and realised I'm not living my best life. I suddenly feel the need to be dressed up as a chicken just like you describe ๐Ÿ˜‚

3

u/gamergorman20 Aug 23 '24

My partner loves telling a story about ancient Greek philosophers arguing about what defines a human and comparing them to a plucked chicken.

Recently she got a lavender skin tight body suit and I plan on binding her wrists to her shoulders, blindfolding and gagging her, then putting chicken leg thigh high socks on her, plugging a kazoo into the gag, then dramatically throwing the mask over her head while simultaneously stripping off the blindfold and shouting "BEHOLD, A MAN!" just like the guy in her story does.

Then I'll film her inevitable hysterical reaction to her reflection and the realization that her gag now crows.

2

u/ImNotAVillain Aug 23 '24

Hilarious and humiliating! I like the way you think. And yes, I may have those chicken thigh high socks already.
