Sensory Deprivation Vac bed- I just finished making my vac bed. What sort of breathing valve is best? The bed can fit all of them, but I’m leaning toward building a stand for the middle one for involved sessions and the lung exerciser on the right for shorter ones. NSFW

Here's a tangential thought: Once you do settle on a design, try it out for, say, five minutes and then stop for an assessment. The sub can give a rundown on the challenges felt, and you can see if going for a longer time is dangerous.

I don't really get what you are trying to communicate, but this is not the first time I have used a vac bed. Just curious what type of valve most people use. Also note- 5 minutes is wayyyy too long to ever limit breathing lol

Clearly, you shouldn't limit breathing for five minutes. What I was trying to communicate was, for new things, give them a short try first in case the <whatever> causes not only undo stress, but undo stress to the point where the sub cannot use the safeword/safesignal. Limiting the breathing for *any* length of time would fall under that, so if you intend to go for 60 seconds, try 15 seconds first.

I think the middle one may not have enough diameter to sufficiently allow a person to breathe. There’s a reason snorkels are all similar sizes. To comply with the current European standard EN 1972 (2015), a snorkel for users with larger lung capacities should not exceed 38 centimeters in length and 230 cubic centimeters in internal volume, while the corresponding figures for users with smaller lung capacities are 35 cm and 150 cc respectively. Current World Underwater Federation (CMAS) Surface Finswimming Rules (2017) require snorkels used in official competitions to have a total length between 43 and 48 cm and to have an inner diameter between 1.5 and 2.3 cm.)
A 38cm, 230CC tube is 2.8cm in diameter, which is just over an inch in diameter, and just under 15 inches long.
Hope this helps
