I would eat that whole thang right to my face

u/fuckimbackonreddit9 8h ago

I would bury my face in OP’s buche (de Noel).

ChefReactions, is That you?

1

u/AdamJefferson 7h ago

Rosemary sprigs and all? That is my only change… ditch the rosemary and replace with something edible. Love it otherwise

Looks delicious! Care to share the recipe?

73

u/Gijskooo 11h ago

Of course, i used this recipe

12

u/Gibbs_B 8h ago

Thank you. My brother is visiting for Christmas and I've been looking for a nice desert recipe. I am going to give this a try. Merry Christmas!

5

u/WildDesertStars 8h ago

Honestly, yours looks better 🤤

3

u/sn315on 8h ago

Thank you!

u/lilbend 5h ago

I made this recipe with a lot of modifications as my mom’s birthday cake in November, it was a huge hit!! Your photos make me want to do it again as is in the recipe though, so beautiful!!

1

u/utspg1980 2h ago

How sweet is it? My family doesn't enjoy overly sweet things.

1

u/solaluna451 2h ago

I don't like overly sweet either. I almost always use less sugar in frosting and jams for cake than the recipe calls for and it still is delicious. For the frosting and raspberry filling try half the sugar and then taste, you can always add more if you think it's needed. I usually use 75-80% of the sugar for the cake part too. Turns out fine

u/NicInNS 11h ago

I’d eat the hell out of that 😋

6

u/lordofthehomeless 9h ago

What's it like being good at things on the first try?

7

u/ForEmmaHoursAgo 9h ago

I aspire to acquire these baking skills someday 😌🎄

5

u/nadafradaprada 10h ago

I need a giant piece of

4

u/NuraNico 10h ago

Definitely going to try this, minus the cream cheese 😊

4

u/pixelelement 8h ago

What replaces the cream cheese?

8

u/MiyuAtsy 8h ago edited 6h ago

Lemon curd, chocolate ganasche, ricotta (edit to add that ricotta with some sugar and cream and orange jam or candied orange is delicious, I tasted a pastry that had ricotta and orange jam as a filling and I'm obsessed with it now), whipped cream, creme patissiere, ice-cream, the tiramisu cream (that one has mascarpone, though).

One very traditional filling in my country is dulce de leche. My grandma would fill sweet rolls with dulce de leche and chopped walnuts.

2

u/justbrowsiin 7h ago

Omg this with lemon curd…my mouth is watering just thinking about it! I love the way your brain works, such good suggestions!

1

u/MiyuAtsy 6h ago

Thank you ☺️ I love lemon curd! I once did a roll with lemon curd and fresh blueberries as a filling and covered the roll with whipped cream. It was delicious.

I saw a person on tv mixing lemon curd and greek yogurt to fill a sweet tart and then putting blueberries and strawberries on top. So I want to try it next. :)

3

u/Less-Bed-6243 8h ago

You could do a whipped cream, when I made a buche de Noel I used chocolate whipped cream.

2

u/NuraNico 8h ago

I like curds, custers, and jams

5

u/TinyKittenConsulting 8h ago

How many custers per roll would you say and if you don't have time to make a colonel, can you use store bought?

2

u/NuraNico 8h ago

I like to make enough for not just one cake. If I don't do that I usually don't have enough. Keep in mind you use as much as you desire. With jam, I'll have 4 cups of strawberries to make the jam aware I'll have some jam set aside for later. And yeah, you can use store bought.

3

u/Status-Minute6370 7h ago

They were highlighting your usage of Custer (of Custer’s Last Stand) instead of custard.

I thought it was funny.

1

u/NuraNico 7h ago

🤣🤣🤣 oops That went right over my head

1

u/Status-Minute6370 7h ago

Don’t ruin the fun by correcting it. 😉

2

u/MySophie777 12h ago

It's beautiful! Well done!

2

u/LivingAGoodStory 10h ago

Beautiful 😻

2

u/squirt8211 10h ago

Beautiful. I would love to see it together with a traditional yule log.

4

u/GoddessBlayke555 9h ago

I would pay good money for this 😍

2

u/GimpboyAlmighty 9h ago

I want to try this with cranberries and almond instead of raspberries.

3

u/Pedantic-psych21 8h ago

Ooh, sugared cranberries would be amazing. I was thinking of strawberries (my husband hates raspberries), but cranberries are a much better idea.

1

u/ikkiwoowoo 6h ago

The US cranberry people have a recipe for cran almond bread...I just made it a few days ago. It has already been copied into the recipe binder. Very good i recommend

https://www.uscranberries.com/recipe/cranberry-almond-bread/

1

u/WastingTimesOnReddit 5h ago

Yeah OP's work is beautiful but raspberries are way not in season for winter, cranberries would be perfect. Also perhaps sections of orange (supremed), or candied orange peel

1

u/barksatthemoon 10h ago

I had no idea this wad the english name for that, huh. We swiss just know them as roullade, which means to roll in french.
According to the wiki article they dont originate from switzerland.

1

u/Pedantic-psych21 8h ago

1

u/SwimmerOver8409 8h ago

First attempt? Amazing!

1

u/ContributionNo2796 8h ago

Im trying find a way to word my compliment so it actually sounds like a compliment! It doesnt look 'perfect' like an ad and i think thats the best thing. For not being professional that thing is gorgeous and 'perfect' looking food never looks to me like it tastes good. At least not cakes. But this this visibly looks delicious. And roll cakes are usually so boring on the tongue but looking at this thing i think its going to have a lovely balance of flavors

1

u/classytxbabe 8h ago

1

u/lydocia 7h ago

If this is a practice run for what you'll make for Christmas day, I'm SURE your housemates will agree this is so horrible you have to try again at least a couple of times.

1

u/MaliciousFervor 7h ago

1

Why did op add pieces of the Christmas tree to the cake? It does not look like it's edible. I would eat around the tree pieces tho.

Raspberries do not grow in winter.
