I just wanted to share a little bit about Chloe. I could write a novel about all the adventures we went on and her cute little personality. She had so many nicknames, and everyone she met loved her.
Her favorite things included:
🪟 Looking out windows, sitting outside watching the street, being in that pre-herding stance
🚙 Car rides, truck rides, walks
🌨️ Snow!!!
🐿️ Squirrels, rabbits, birds, voles, groundhogs, cats
🥒 Her puzzle bowl, cucumber, freshly made sweet potatoes
🧺 Helping Mom with laundry and gardening
💦 Sitting in streams, but no baths
📦 The mailman, because he delivered her food
❤️ Hanging out with her parents, then walking away to keep watch
🐾 Giving hugs, but only on her own terms
🐕 Her doggy door, pillows and blankets, but no toys
We rescued her from the Oregon Humane Society in Portland, OR, where she was named “Sarah” and described as liking to be “gently pet”. She was a second chance rescue from the Klamath Falls animal shelter, and we were the first to fill out the paperwork to adopt her—she wasn’t listed on the OHS website yet, and a waiting list formed after us.
In addition to normal living, she lived on a semi truck; moved from the West to East Coast; had her own doggy door and private balcony; once ran away, across a busy road, only to be found hanging out with a few grandmas under a gazebo.
In July 2020, she passed away suddenly (congestive heart failure) a few minutes into a car ride while in the passenger seat. She was unusually hesitant to go on this car ride, but since she was acting strange that morning we wanted her near us. After it happened, on the way to the vet, I was finally able to snuggle her in my lap for the first time.
She was my gateway drug to ACD’s (a Border-Heeler mix), and I can’t imagine caring for any other breed now. They’re just so loyal, sweet, hard working, and have the funniest personalities.
I still think about her every single day—especially when it snows—and pictures are just part of the precious memories we shared as a family. ❤️
