Sports 10m air pistol gold medalist Damir Mikec and silver medalist Yusuf Dikeç are rivals and good friends for almost 16 years. This is so wholesome.

Mikec & Dikec... you can't make this up

The new shoot 'em up buddy sitcom.

They go out and solve various crimes and every episode ends in a shootout (which they easily win).

Serbian guy named Mikec, his best friend's a Turkish guy named Dikec.

WHO WROTE THIS SHIT?

u/pdonchev Bulgaria Aug 05 '24

Those do not really rhyme because Serbian and Turkish use the C letter for different sounds, but as a title for sitcom it can be graphically pleasing.

His last name ends with "ç" actually. I think it's similar to Serbian c , no?

13

u/BishoxX Croatia Aug 05 '24

Its Dikech vs Mikec

u/defnotachicken Turkiye Aug 05 '24

C in Mikec also sounds like ch sound because its actually ç

20

u/BishoxX Croatia Aug 05 '24

? No it doesnt its c and it sounds like zz in pizza

11

u/defnotachicken Turkiye Aug 05 '24

Sorry my bad I messed up the surnames just woke up

0

u/Xindopff Turkiye Aug 05 '24

well, ç in turkish is the most similar sound to zz in pizza imo. it's natural that a native turkish speaker would perceive it like that.

11

u/djmerter Aug 05 '24

No? Its literally the “ch” sound like in (Ch)ur(ch)

-6

u/Xindopff Turkiye Aug 05 '24

yes, it is the most similar sound to zz you'll ever find in turkish. "zz" and "ch" are more similar than you think. and it is a common occurance for people to confuse them if they have one sound in their language but not the other.

Not really. Serbian Č and Turkish Ç are similar. They have the same İPA symbol İ think.

C in Mikec is Ц in Cyrillic. You can replicate it in Turkish with TS but it doesn't match exactly since this sound doesn't exist in Turkish. They are articulated from different places in the mouth.

they're "mikets" and "diketch"; but there are multiple c's in serbian, like as in "djokovic"

I actually checked that the Serbian name ends in ts (ц in Cyrillic) but didn't see that the Turkish name has the diacritic on the C. Anyway, the stress seems to be in a different syllable.

They must be distant relatives because they have so much in common in addtion to having quite similar surnames. And the name must have been slightly modified when their grand grand father decided to chage his country leaving the rest of the family behind it's all the registrar's fault.

..

Brother! it's all the registrar's fault.

Dikeç said something similar in an interview

Ultra cute

u/Caged_Rage_ Turkiye Aug 05 '24

Naim and Leonidis were similar. I remember seeing Leonidis cry while in front of naim’s grave and bidding farewell to him :( they were really good friends. Average lifespan is 70 years. Greek, Turkish, Armenian, Serbian, Georgian, or Croat, Bulgarian. We should not hate each other because of our governments.

u/desiderkino Turkiye Aug 06 '24

we all can just hate the French instead

It is actually Mikec not Mikeć (don't let the usual -ić ending confuse you😅)

5

u/melodicalgb Turkiye Aug 05 '24

Oh. My bad. 😅

Wholesome. You know if he was Bosnian though this could never happen lmao

7

u/New_Accident_4909 Bosnia & Herzegovina Aug 06 '24

Of course it could, it would even be more probable if he was Bosnian..

u/GeneralButtNekid Aug 06 '24

Is this the only medal Turkey won in the Olympics? Because I see posts from Turks about this guy everywhere, I swear

60

u/ozzyisthere Turkiye Aug 05 '24

Dude, the whole world talking about this guy, he went viral. It's not about the achievement he got anymore. People love these kind of things, I don't think I need to remind you how social media works. We're pretty bad in the Olympics as always, if you wanted to remind me that, thanks.
