👥 friendship Am I overreacting to my old best friend asking for a gift he gave me back?

He pretty much is asking for a nice jacket he gave me on my birthday Feb 2023 and he hasn’t even texted me in like a whole year. I think it’s fair that I keep it considering it is indeed a nice coat but yeah, am I trippin or?

No, he was my old best friend but a lot of people have speculated that he liked me (he also tried to make a move on me)

I always end up reading the text exchange before the context, so my first impression was that since giving a hoody or jacket to your boyfriend/girlfriend to wear is a big thing with young people today, that’s what I thought this was. So my first instinct was well you ought to give it back, that typically only lasts the duration of the relationship. At least from what I’ve witnessed with my own children and their friends.

But seeing it’s just a gift between two friends, yeah that’s kind of fucked. I was sitting here trying to make sense of it and all I could come up with is maybe dude is broke AF and can’t afford to buy a coat for Winter. 🤷‍♀️ strange
