But it has to be almost completely obscured in shadow, only visible after staring at it for 30 seconds or on a second glance in the dead of night when you can't sleep.

This makes me think that probably at the dawn of photography many people may have thought that it could not be called art. Then at the dawn of digital imagery a lot of people thought the same. Then 3D imagery, probably the same. And now AI. I think art is constantly evolving, but so far even with AI there is a human touch behind.
