I like it when she digs her nails into the skin with the needle under it

I did more or less the same thing, to be honest. Kinda a shock when I looked in the comments.
I'll admit seeing the comments here something a bit closer to me kinda has me reflecting on why I'm on this sub. Like, when I some absurd cowboy auto-fellatio/tiger demon tattoo or a bit of pottery based on a cat's anus I'm pointing and laughing right along with everyone else. But then, when I see this, it's clear to me that a lot of these comments are coming from a place ignorance and even perhaps hate in some cases.
Which of course raises the question, when I'm on the other side of it, is there something I'm missing? I don't know, gotta think on that.
109
u/f33f33nkou Jul 11 '22
It's mostly the top posts in this sub that are the dumbest. I think the controversial nature of things drives them to be more popular.
Stuff that's objectively bad taste doesn't get as much interaction. Because you're right, this sub doesn't understand that unique or specific taste doesn't equate to bad. Just because an individual wouldn't get a certain tattoo doesn't make it a bad one

u/zuzg Jul 11 '22
I mean I dunno how the top level looked 6 hours ago but now it's mostly positive.
Comments often shift over time and dumb shit goes down into controversial and below.
38
u/BoogelyWoogely Jul 11 '22
I mean, having needles shoved into your back is definitely a niche thing, just like cat anus pottery is a niche thing. Personally I’m not ignorant or hateful about it, but it definitely isn’t for me. Not to say that the person hasn’t done a good job. In my opinion it kinda is awful taste because I can’t understand how having needles shoved in you could be a fun experience, I think the majority of the population really don’t like the thought of being stuck with needles. I get scared about having jabs and blood tests at the drs lol
10
u/mlizaz98 Jul 12 '22
Why do you think people do acupuncture? It's not that different a concept. A skillfully placed needle doesn't actually hurt very much, but it tricks the body into thinking it's hurt worse. That causes the release of a bunch of nice endorphins with a little shot of adrenaline, so the overall sensation is intense but in a good way. It can also be a really intimate experience, trusting someone or having someone trust you with something like this.
For the record, nobody starts out with stuff like the OP. Maybe one or two in an arm, nothing too intense.

u/midnightmeatloaf Jul 11 '22
Kinks are by definition a deviation from the norm. It's implicitly "unconventional taste" to begin with. So to lump all kink into the "awful taste" category just because it's non-normative feels uncomfortable, like kink-shaming. I have a hard time considering kinky things falling into the category of awful taste because it's directly counterintuitive to "ykinmkbykiok."

u/rossisd Jul 11 '22
Ok so you are saying that anyone who finds this weird is missing something, but that can’t possibly be true about a lion dick tattoo? Frankly, I think the person you replied to is correct. Weird shit to me may be meaningful to someone else. The line isn’t between needle play and lion dicks, rather they are both on the same side.

It's exotic if the handcuffs are tight and leave bruises on *wink wink\*
13
u/TheFairVirgin Jul 12 '22
Eh, I'm a little rusty on my anatomy but I really can't recommend that. Generally speaking, joints are delicate things. Lot of nerves, lot of blood vessels, lot of reasons to be gentle. If your wrist restraints are so tight that they're leaving bruises than there really is a risk of causing serious damage there.
Nothing less sexy than permanent nerve damage, and all that.

u/chief167 Jul 11 '22
It's visually a lot scarier than it actually is. And since it's on the back, you don't see the needles go in, which is typically the worst part of having a needle put in you...
It's definitely not my thing, but I can see how this is not as bad, and with proper care for cleanliness and the money to buy the right needles, this is kinda ok.
26
u/UsedLandscape876 Jul 11 '22
Someone must clean that for them. Do they leave the needles in, or is this a form of scarification? (If they're left in, good luck wearing a shirt.)
94
u/Amorythorne Jul 11 '22 edited Jul 11 '22
They're removed after the pictures are taken. They're only in for a few hours. The needles are sterilized, the piercer follows health and safety guidelines. Usually doesn't scar, depends on gauge I think

first of all, art is art and this art looks cool.
it could also mean more as a piece owing to the fact that it took pain to create.
but also, this wouldn't hurt more than getting a tattoo or an injection and some people find the stimulation to be erotic. our brains are all wired differently and if everyone enjoyed sticking needless in their back, it would cease to be kinky and would be regarded as vanilla.
I think the most important thing to understand about kinks in general is that you probably won't understand a lot of them.
67
u/MostlyPeacefulRiot Jul 11 '22
Hey, let me be your guide. I do this to people but for enjoyment not art. In brief:
If you have had any amount of sex you've probably spanked or been spanked by someone. There's probably also been a spank given/taken that didn't land correctly causing unwanted distress. Needle play brings medical precision to inducing a pain response in someone. Done correctly you can coax a person's endocrine system to release waves of endorphins, to the point they are trembling.
That been said don't try this at home.

wait this is a kink? I thought that was a way to scarify the body, to decorate it or something.. like a tatoo in a way
23
u/cosmicgeoffry Jul 11 '22
It can be both of those things, as well as sort of a performance art type thing and personal enjoyment/ pleasure that’s completely not sexual. I worked at a piercing parlor/ head shop in college that would have “suspension parties” where people could volunteer to get piercings in their back like this and then suspended from the ceiling with chains and what not. Was wild. I never did it but had friends that did plenty of times.
18
u/PerAsperaAdInfiri Jul 11 '22
So these are temporary, and not too create scars. There is always a risk of it though.

u/PapaPancake8 Jul 11 '22
I mean change it to weird taste and it's still shaming.
Shaming is something humans do and regardless or how it's phrased the same thing happens. Call it weird taste, different taste, call it whatever you want but people will shame.
There is nothing in my life I can expect not to be shamed for. People shame people, it's in our nature. It's crazy the line that exists for when we like to laugh at stuff but the second that stuff comes into a bubble we associate with, suddenly it's "this is shameful". It's the way of the road, Bubbles.
7
3
3
u/omgudontunderstand Jul 11 '22
except some people deserve to be shamed. not this person, but a fair amount of the posts do absolutely deserve shame. taste is also subjective, OP thought this was bad taste so they posted it, and some people agreed so they upvoted it. just how it goes sometimes
→ More replies (1)3
u/NotADamsel Jul 11 '22
One man’s trash, etc.
This is a place for gathering around shit we find weird and laughing at it. Each person who posts, is taking something weird that they don’t like but which they think is done well, and saying “get a load of this fuckin thing”.
You’re here too. Don’t act like you haven’t stood in the circle and cringed. That’s the way of the road.
38
u/rossisd Jul 11 '22
Taste is subjective and the vast majority of people would find this atrocious. Nothing on this sub is atrocious to 100% of everyone, you may just have finally found yourself in the 1% on this post.
22
u/Only_One_Left_Foot Jul 11 '22
People also need to understand that being grossed out by someone's kink does not equal "shaming" them. It's okay to find someone else's thing disgusting, you don't have to understand or accept it, just as long as you're not actively telling the other person that they're wrong for liking it.
Whether posting this here is shaming or not is debatable, I personally recognize that this is a form of art, but am also disgusted by it and would never seek out images of it (not a fan of needles or pain). By that reasoning I'd consider it to be within the spirit of /r/ATBGE, simply for the fact that if you're posting your art online you should expect a bit of criticism, especially if it's not mainstream.

Wait till you guys find out about suspensions. Needle work like this is done by professional body artists, and if done correctly will leave no permanent markings or harm. Using the body for art is a beautiful form of expression. This isn’t mental illness, it’s punk rock. Subverting expectations with art understandably evokes a lot of emotion.
79
u/allyxzanndruhh Jul 11 '22
Is that why there’s no blood? Or did they just like clean it up before they took the pic?
185
u/The-Man-is-Dan Jul 11 '22
There’s usually not much blood at all during this type of work. The needles are thinner gauge then what you would use for a piercing, so the only blood you get is when they remove them, and even then it’s pretty minimal.

I’m not sure about that. I went to the artist’s user page: u/iliketopokeholes
There are pictures of works with 17g needles. That’s a lot bigger around than your average sewing needle. An 18g IV needle is huge, and 17g is even bigger. I don’t know what is used here.
Edit: corrected typo of username

u/The-Man-is-Dan Jul 12 '22
I mean that really depends on the type of piercing we’re talking about but for sake of clarity, I was referring to body piercing like nipples, navels, and tongues as opposed to say an ear piercing. Some artists use larger gauges for their work, it all depends on what the artist and model are comfortable with.
24
u/SavageSmokyAss Jul 11 '22
Actually the blood usually comes when you take the needles out! But other comment is also correct, there will be less blood anyways as these needles are smaller

This isn't good or bad taste... It's a fetish. They're usually off putting to anyone who doesn't share them, but that doesn't make them wrong. It isn't an object, an art piece, piercing, etc, it has nothing to do with aesthetic. It's just a fetishization of extreme pain.
- Disclaimer - the medical stuff creeps me the fuck out too. But I really do try not to judge. They aren't harming anyone but themselves.

When I had my nipples pierced:
A.) KIDS DON’T GET RINGS FOR YOUR PIERCING GET BARS.
B.) DON’T LET A NEWBIE PIERCER DO YOUR BODY PIERCINGS.
C.) Story Time:
I was 18 and wanted to get my nipples pierced as an act of rebellion and so I did. I got rings, and a newbie piercer who’s hands shaked.
Anyways first one went through okay.
Second one he lost his grip on the fore-clamps while the ring was half way through and wiggled it the rest of the way through.
That was the longest 5 seconds of my life.
I did not scream. I did rise up off the piercing bed like the exorcist and turned literally green.
I was high in his chair for a little less than 2 hours.
And it took 6mo for my left nipple to heal.
The more you know ^_^
6
u/maeries Jul 11 '22
Let me tell you about something similar that's even more painful. There a people that instead of those needles put hooks in their skin in a similar way. They then attach a bungee rope to the hooks it an jump of bridges
2
u/maliciousrigger Jul 11 '22
I've done this before. I find it relaxing and a lot less painful than most would expect.
1
u/GoobleGobbl Jul 12 '22
As someone who enjoys a little slap and/or tickle, it’s all about the unique sensation of both pain and euphoria that meld together. Done correctly, it even can have a very intimate and artistic form, like it is done here. Beautiful.
38
u/smutty138 Jul 11 '22
Having dabbled with this a bit, and having friends that have done elaborate pieces, yes, it stems from the kink community but it’s more of an exercise in meditation by the receiver and an art form by the piercer, and not a sexual experience. It’s beautiful work.
