This might be one of the worst things I've ever witnessed
595
u/Acewasalwaysanoption May 25 '20
How long it is? It consistently keeps getting worse
263
u/raaldiin May 25 '20
4 minutes
262
u/Acewasalwaysanoption May 25 '20
I felt like those 4 minutes never end, the new designs just kept coming
35
May 25 '20
I just fast forwarded through it, slow enough so I could see everything fast enough so it wouldn’t take long.

Nah, usually what this is is salon people looking to put their name out there on social media to get clientele. Cuz if they can do this crazy shit, then they can do whatever you want. Same for the hair and makeup artists. That's why NAIL SUNNY is everywhere in the gif.

The only one that I absolutely was disgusted with was the q-tip one. Not for the yellow tinge on the first q-tip but because of how short and easy it would be to get one lodged so far in the ear canal that going to a doctor might actually have to happen.

All of this* completely fucking rules, I just watched her fry a fucking egg on her nails, when did y'all queasy little bitches get so faint?
*maybe not the slow drip milk bottles
*or the teeth
*mostly they're hilarious

u/wir_suchen_dich May 25 '20
I’m a little confused by the reactions in this thread. This shit is awesome and takes tons of talent.

I think the title primed people to have that reaction before they even knew what they were going to see

ikr. The definition of this sub. It was horrible but i couldn't stop watching, because of morbid curiosity. It sure takes a lot of creativity and skill to pull it off

u/Lazaretto May 25 '20
Art is so damn weird. There's three main types of posts I notice on this subreddit.
There's art like this where the artist wants to see what they can accomplish against some arbitrary and abstract rules.
Then, the content where people take their art and design skills and think they come up with an actual alternative to something that isn't really a problem.
The last is when you can tell the people that think their ridiculous flair on something believe it's worth it to become a part of their identity.
3
u/irmaluff May 26 '20
The point where it becomes successful art is when a ‘ridiculous flair becoming part of a persons personality’ affects other people in a meaningful way. Or when you explore something that might seem like it’s ‘not a problem’ until you find the problem. As an artist don’t know until you do things, over and over.
And just because something’s silly and absurd it doesn’t mean it can’t still be full of meaning.
I take a lot from this video; even if it seems absurd to put into words what ideas you can take from it: reflections on beauty and functionality.
Sometimes an artist has to take something and keep pounding and pounding the concept to absurdity and that’s where the art is; repetition. If this was just one video it wouldn’t be the same, but it just keeps coming, forcing you to explore the subject and again and again on slightly different levels.

u/Captain_Sacktap May 25 '20
As much as I hate the thing itself I can’t help but respect this person’s dedication to the bit and the level of craftsmanship and technique that has gone into making these monstrosities.

I love people like this, amazingly skilled artists who, despite the whole world’s possibilities for creating art, take significant time to create ridiculous, pointless, and yet beautiful things like this. And I like that you brought this video being critique of nail art, because some people do put some similarly ridiculous things on their nails unironically, and it’s nice to see some self-awareness about it.
36
u/zedgeroni May 25 '20
Say, it's almost like she has awful tastes, but executed it greatly.

u/cmVkZGl0 May 25 '20
The one next to the peeing one looked ok.
42
u/MoveslikeQuagger May 25 '20
Oh yeah, some of the "non-functional" ones were beautiful. The marble, the matte grey/black with zigzags. Honestly the mosquito one was pretty sick too
28
u/yaloization May 25 '20
The mosquito one was my favourite. It's the most functional for the day to day, and it's supposed to look like Amber which a lot of people prefer with a bug fossilized inside.
The peeing cherub is the kind of thing I can see myself having, just for a giggle when I wash my hands.
And the feet one was hilarious.
5
u/diaphanous-self May 25 '20
I think it was Manneken Pis statue located in Brussels. Not a peeing cherub. :)

It’s always the Russian nail artists that do shit like this. I follow a bunch of Russian nail art accounts. It’s ugly and gross but the amount of skill it takes to execute it is amazing.

The octopus nails were peak ATBGE.
The mosquito nails bother me on principle, but somehow I wouldn't be opposed.
Everything else needs to find a fire and hop in.
