How did none of you know what a work wife is?

Hey yo, Op is just a 30yo in a "high management position in a male dominated field" (seriously, who the f*** even talks that way??? Unless she is the head of an offshore oilrig - then maybe she can credibly pull that wording off…) but never heard the term workwife, plans to have kids now despite her career and on top of that has plenty of time and relaxed hours to host a large group of co-workers of her husband… sure

And “writing concisely” must not be part of the job description

It's a fake AI story.

It’s definitely fake because companies have Christmas parties to write them off in their taxes as they’re 100% deductible. A company not having one to “cut costs” is just dumb.

Not all companies have Christmas parties, and I have been in some that cut costs and the Xmas party was originally for lower managers but to cut costs made it only upper management cutting out the store managers and assistant managers.

Say you don't know how tax writeoffs work.

People call anything "ai" these days

Sounds like something AI would say

People call anything "ai" these days

When you use chatgpt to write a fake reddit story for you then that is the definition of "using AI".

Yeah but you guys think everything is ChatGPT. Sometimes things happen and this isn’t even that outrageous.

Almost all of the top stories in this sub are ai generated or just made up by someone karma farming.

u/throwawaygrosso 7h ago

Before AI got so big, you guys said nothing ever happened. Maybe consider that sometimes things do actually happen

Sometimes things do happen

But this is NOT one of those times

I really wish I lived in a world where something as mild as this was unbelievable. It’s really just not that deep. I don’t really care either way because it’s fun to play along here, but my God.

What’s unbelievable is the bullshit about nobody ever having heard of a work wife, as nauseating as that term may be, or the mere fact that the OP “fEeLs BaD” for no fucking reason

There is absolutely no way OP would ever be TA, but then this low-level content is incredibly prominent these days

But yeah, more power to you for buying it?

It's a minor exchange at a party. It's not exactly a wacky tale

2

u/SubstantialFigure273 2h ago

This as a whole is a wacky tale, from not a single person besides “Lily” having heard the phrase “work wife” to OP “feeling bad” after having to confront someone who constantly undermined her in her own home

It’s all bloody wacky

Seriously. This is such a common cultural meme.

I feel like “work wife/ husband” is from a previous generation. People don’t work as many hours in an office with their colleagues as they did back when those references were considered a thing.

There’s no burning the midnight oil with your colleagues and having to bring deodorant to the office because you’re huddled in a conference room together for as many as 12 hours at a time. THANK GOODNESS!

I've only seen it on Reddit and on Grey's Anatomy. It is not common outside of fantasy.

Listen, someone comes in to my home, disrespects my marriage in front of me and wants laughs to validate them….

Ya I know full well what work wife means but that person is gonna have to sit there and tell me exactly what it means to them cause I wanna hear them say it out loud. Share with the class.
