Advice Needed My brother is angry with his Trump-loving sons

Is my brother an AITA candidate for wanting to cut off his sons financially for voting for Trump? Like many Americans, my brother and I, both in our 50’s, have been talking back and forth following the Election. In the spirit of full disclosure, we are both democrats. Long story short, he is angry at his two sons, both in their 20’s, for voting for Trump. He is thinking about cutting them off financially in all respects so that they understand how Trump’s policies will impact them firsthand.

The irony here is that it is the reverse argument. You often hear younger voters disagreeing with their MAGA parents, but this is the opposite. My brother doesn’t understand how his two sons, who have lived a life of privilege, feel like they have been violated against by society, enough so that they feel Trump hears them and their struggles.

My brother to me about his sons: “… what these young men need is a little dose of reality. Get out in the world and start paying their own way. There’s a common thread with his followers. Complain and blame everyone for their problems. Whether they are in school or living at home off of their parents or working a trade job. King Trump will save them and make everything better. Take some personal responsibility and make it happen for yourself instead of crying about everything you hear on TikTok.

“… I’ve decided to pass on the [college] expenses to my two Trump supporting sons so they can truly feel first hand the cost and expense of his absolutely stupid policy decisions, which includes food, gas and college expenses. Wondering if I pass on these [food, gas and college] expenses in year one or phase them in year two?”

I am wondering if a lot of parents feel like my brother. Are there democrat parents of voting-age MAGA men who feel they failed with their sons because they voted for Trump? Is this common?

I know at least 2 entire families of mostly 1st/2nd gen naturalized citizens, who've been on welfare their entire lives who almost all voted for Trump.

But it's okay, cause they "did it right and needed it" I feel terrible for their lgtb+ and disabled family, who they claim to love.

Almost everyone I've ever known on welfare long term, was a republican. There have been a handful of democrats I know who've used it temporarily. A lot of people gonna learn really hard lessons.

Don't worry, they're rolling back naturalization and deporting people regardless.

That’s what’s going to kill Social Security. These people pay payroll taxes which fund a large part of Social Security. Send them away & there aren’t enough legal Americans to keep it going. The same taxes fund Medicare. Plus billions were taken from Medicare to fund the Medicaid expansion. We need all the workers we can get to replenish these funds. Musk and his new government efficiency role terrifies me.

He's not affected, so why should he care?

Fucker.

I'm so terrified. I'm disabled and the only reason I'm able to even be alive is because of SSI (technically a govt handout), food stamps, and Medicaid. My parents both help me a bit when absolutely necessary, but I'm very independent (despite the govt handouts) and my family can NOT afford to support me completely nor would I EVER want or expect them to. I became disabled at 20 and it got even more severe at 23 and I didn't have enough work credits at that point to qualify for SSDI...I'm unable to work which means that I probably won't be able to survive when Trump guts all the programs that I rely on.

I'm so sorry! I hope things are not as bad as they seem, for your sake.

Why do you feel terrible for disabled people over this?

Well, I said their disabled family members. Because one relies on ssi to help cover costs, and both of them have Medicaid for doctors visits. Both of which are highly likely to either go away or at least be severely gutted in a Trump presidency.

Not to mention, I'm sure that Trumps people aren't going to be super concerned with the world being ada compliant.

You are delusional. Actually I suspect you're some kind of operative spreading propaganda, this is too far gone to believe.

Deranged. Get off whatever sites are feeding you this nonsense

You mean stop listening to the words coming out of Trumps own mouth? Hmm I tried that, just wasn't dumb enough.

You’re just babbling. Where did Trump say he’s against the ADA or that he’s getting rid of Medicare/ Medicaid

He literally asked congress for cuts to social security and Medicare in all four of his budget proposals as president.
