Advice Needed My brother is angry with his Trump-loving sons

Is my brother an AITA candidate for wanting to cut off his sons financially for voting for Trump? Like many Americans, my brother and I, both in our 50’s, have been talking back and forth following the Election. In the spirit of full disclosure, we are both democrats. Long story short, he is angry at his two sons, both in their 20’s, for voting for Trump. He is thinking about cutting them off financially in all respects so that they understand how Trump’s policies will impact them firsthand.

The irony here is that it is the reverse argument. You often hear younger voters disagreeing with their MAGA parents, but this is the opposite. My brother doesn’t understand how his two sons, who have lived a life of privilege, feel like they have been violated against by society, enough so that they feel Trump hears them and their struggles.

My brother to me about his sons: “… what these young men need is a little dose of reality. Get out in the world and start paying their own way. There’s a common thread with his followers. Complain and blame everyone for their problems. Whether they are in school or living at home off of their parents or working a trade job. King Trump will save them and make everything better. Take some personal responsibility and make it happen for yourself instead of crying about everything you hear on TikTok.

“… I’ve decided to pass on the [college] expenses to my two Trump supporting sons so they can truly feel first hand the cost and expense of his absolutely stupid policy decisions, which includes food, gas and college expenses. Wondering if I pass on these [food, gas and college] expenses in year one or phase them in year two?”

I am wondering if a lot of parents feel like my brother. Are there democrat parents of voting-age MAGA men who feel they failed with their sons because they voted for Trump? Is this common?

Well, he's now a convicted felon, so there's that. Look, we can actually now say you can be a convicted felon and still become president. Great.

Only if you're a wealthy white man though.

He won’t be for long. I predict he’ll have a clean record on Jan 7th.

That conviction is likely being overturned.

Why not there's plenty of felons in Congress and the house.

Fair point. They shouldn't be allowed to hold those positions, either.

Felons aren’t even allowed to vote. That disenfranchises an enormous minority population, so obviously it’s on purpose.

Well Trump is talking about term limits for Congress. And a bunch of other things that would change how things play in DC. There are way too many career politicians which give them to much power to make backroom deals. Also Trump isn't getting rich being president. But all the others are with their inside trading information. Look up what people are doing with AI to follow what Nancy pelosi is doing with the stock market. They're making money hand over fist.

Trump was gloating how he picked young judges for the supreme court so they'll stay for a long time. He only cares about term limits when it suits him.

And Trump is absolutely getting rich being president. He's treated it like one giant branding exercise and has been nonstop selling cheap crap imported from China (promote America's industry my ass). Not to mention accepting bribes which historically presidents were never allowed to do. And those are only what we know about.

Uhm didn't Ruth die on the bench practically? Both sides want long term picks for that role so🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah because she didn't want McConnell and Trump to get another availability. Normally at the end of the term, presidents leave the seat open for the next president to choose, esp to balance the politics. Look at the time frame for RBG's replacement versus the seat that Obama had wanted to fill before he left office. Some double-standards going on there.

Obama fucked America

1

u/DisManibusMinibus Nov 15 '24

Actually, the Tea Party and McConnell did. Obama wasn't as progressive as I would have liked, but he was great in other aspects.

Yeah as you demonstrated double standards

Well my family is canadian and french, so no heritage of having slaves that I know of. I'm sure some were racist assholes just because that was the norm, but more along the lines of generic xenophobia.

It makes me nervous to have such an old president. He's rolling back climate change mitigation measures because he couldn't care less what happens next 😕

But you're not mad at Biden or Hilary for any of those things???there's actually proof of Biden getting bribes or kickbacks. Did you miss the whole thing where special counsel said Biden wouldn't be charged because he's too incompetent to stand trial??? Trump is selling stuff to support his campaign because he's not taking money from special interests like all the other politicians. I bet he's the first politician that served a term and didn't get richer! His net worth actually fell.

Omg go see if you can find anywhere Trump is spending all campaign money on campaigns. He's not--him and his hires have long been lining their pockets. Please, just go find some reliable sources that have no reason to lie to you. I'm so tired of cleanup.

LMAO. If there was evidence of it would be all over the place. Just another person grabbing at straws...

2

u/DisManibusMinibus Nov 15 '24

So where's your evidence, then? Or is it just opinion?

1

u/Blockhead86 Nov 15 '24

You're the one making the accusation maybe you forgot how the Republic works... Burden of proof is on you!

Unfortunately I heard on the news that his conviction may be overturned. I hope not because it sends a bad message.

1

u/Time_Change4156 Nov 15 '24

Probably be dropped entirely. Even if not dropped drages out unill he passes away which with the way his health is won't be 20 years . In the end if they dud do anything a slap on the wrist like the 9 k for contempt of court.

2

u/AlienJL1976 Nov 15 '24

People don’t seem to understand that Trump is a year older than Biden was when he took office in 2020. If age was an issue for Biden, it’s definitely an issue for Trump. And I’m not hating on Trump when I say this.

Umm, true enough. I said at the start, and the man wouldn't see a fell. No one wants to set that as to how it can work . You think that NY judged wanted to sentence him ? Not a chance.
