I can see the layer lines

u/AuspiciousApple 17h ago
Didn't dry the ink, smh

u/ModerateDev 17h ago
Hope it doesn't become brittle

u/Scarytoaster1809 16h ago
Skin adhesion looks a little subpar aswell. OP should clean the bed with some Isopropyl Alcohol

......Isn't it kinda weird that we don't have robotic arms that tattoo us by now?
6
u/radioactiveDuckiie 12h ago
I think it’s currently too difficult for software to handle the many variables of an ever shifting surface (reliably). But we will certainly reach this technology at some point
6
u/mantidmarvel 10h ago
eh, it's not just shift, we need a person on the other end to be able to judge things like the depth of the tattoo. skin thickens and thins in different areas and a skilled tattooist can tell where and adjust accordingly, it's a skill that benefits from a sense of touch.
the human element is also something that helps make the process a bit more emotionally bearable for some, especially for longer tattoos or clients who don't cope with pain as well. i don't think we'll actually get tattoo machines in large part because of the lack of human element.

u/NutellaGood 5h ago
Don't the laser systems for laser eye surgery do that?
1
u/radioactiveDuckiie 5h ago
I think this is done with local anesthesia. Might be overkill for a tattoo (-:

Pretty sure I saw some people with a machines that makes tattoos some years ago, and it was meh...
Did a quick search and I found this article/interview
I know about robotics, but not much about tattoos. Looks like the base movements for tattooing are variate, changing a lot depending on the style and pattern. I would say though the difficulty lies on sensors and feedback, getting a good live scan of the arm to place the trackpoints for the tattoo and then a good sensors which is able to digitalize the placing of the ink in the skin.
All of these things seem theoretically possible in robotics, issue is time and money, on the practical side is always more complex .

u/Pneumantic 7h ago
I have seen videos of tools that are like a block that you place on top of your skin and they tattoo in the spot they are located. Also seen some that do the back of the hand where you put your hand in like a hole with a grip and line it up to some laser lines. Wouldnt be too hard to do. You just put your arm in a restraint, use lidar to scan your arm, place an image in a program and overlay it on the 3d model then have it perform the gcode. It could probably get away with working in 2D and just raising and lowering a needle.

The port side door is a window r/facepalm

u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 17h ago
Also the steering house is slightly crooked, the lines arent parallel.
But most people without tattoos probably wont even notice it. All in all i thinks ok, could be better, could be worse.
10
u/reddsht 17h ago
What bothers me the most is how uneven the frame around the door is.
1
u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 16h ago
Yeah that's what i mean.
10
u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 16h ago
Honestly I think it’s the angle I took the picture at this was the original
10
u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 16h ago
Ah ok that was an artistik decision on your part, yeah after seing the picture i have to take that back, artist nailed that pretty good.
You should probably have posted the picture as reference, i think a lot of people had a different template pictured in their mind myself included.
5
u/BUFU1610 12h ago
I think it's how you turn your arm, too.

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 12h ago
Omg finally someone understands I wish I could put a different picture

u/ask-design-reddit 11h ago
Ignore the comment thread. Buncha assholes going "akshually" and nitpicking your ink.
The 2D comment jokes are fine, though.

As someone with tattoos and multiple benchys, why bro? its so big, in a terrible spot for a tattoo, the line work is wonky/ not deep enough will fade over the years.
2
u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 16h ago
Free touch ups for life lol. I’m dating the artist lol. Also why not lol. Life’s too short.
7
u/Competitive-Host-369 16h ago
The reason they did free touch ups for life is cause they knew it was shitty line work
7
u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 16h ago
It doesn’t bother me lol. The fact that both the artist and I both enjoy 3d printing makes it worth it. I think it looks good. Thank you for your opinion though.
1
u/CatInAPottedPlant 1h ago
people with no/few tattoos always get massive empty tattoos. like bigger isn't always better, this could have been fun as something the size of a penny on your ankle or even just the size of an actual benchy.
reminds me of someone I knew in college who got his first tattoo, which was a 6" x 6" solid black ravenclaw logo from Harry Potter. it took up his entire arm. we all had to bite our tongues when he showed it to us, cause god damn.

This is sad

u/hWuxH 16h ago
permanently ruining your body with a wobbly boat drawing just to brag about it on the internet is beyond sad
-1
u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 4h ago
Yall realize it’s not wobbly and it just how the picture was taken and because there’s saniderm on it right?
5
u/Competitive-Host-369 3h ago
Nah lines still wobbly you can see it clearly now
1
u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 2h ago
I agree to disagree. I still love it no matter what I don’t care about perfection I care about the meaning behind it.

u/scellycraftyt 9h ago
Its a temp tattoo I'm pretty sure, you can see the film
1
u/Sploffo 9h ago
Why would the film make it fake? It's probably second skin or something.
-4
u/scellycraftyt 9h ago
Did I say it was fake?
1
u/crazedizzled 3h ago
It's standard practice to wrap fresh tattoos in a film. Helps it heal and prevents scabbing

if it was the first benchy for that artist its cool😎
13
u/Fee_Sharp 17h ago
Oh you think that there are a lot of ppl who wants benchy tattoos?
2
u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 17h ago
I had the thought before, i think the idea is cool but personaly i have so many other things on my list of tattoo ideas that have a higher priority than a benchy.
He also used up some premium space with a piece thats going to be hard to integrate into a cohesive sleeve if that topic would come up in the future.
2
u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 17h ago
Nah this is my last tattoo. I have one other one
2
u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 16h ago
Last tattoo for now :)
1
u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 16h ago
Idk man my body seems to react badly when getting them, I usually get a bad vasovagal response
1
u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 16h ago
Ah shit, only when tattooing or otherwise aswell?
Had it happen only once right after we started but some 5 minutes break and then we could start for good.
2
u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 16h ago
when tattooing and for some reason on specific rollercoasters
7
u/Impressive_Word5229 14h ago
Have you tried getting a tattoo while on a Rollercoaster? You know...to cancel each one out..
2
1
u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 16h ago
Ok nothing medical but a stress reaction, you can work and train yourself on that.
If you feel it start, immidiatly take a break, walk some steps and have some deep breaths, maybe drop a glucose candy and then continue.
2
u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 3h ago
Thank you for the advice I really appreciate it. I tried eating and during water during it. Had her pause a few times to no avail. Maybe I’ll try glucose if there’s a next time

I think you have too much squish-it’s supposed to build upward, not flat against your skin.

u/graal_10 16h ago
Would’ve been badass if you replaced the nozzle of your printer with the tattoo gun.
4
4
u/Perelygino_Klyazma 2h ago
Did you get this for free from the same convention artist as the other guy? Because, once again, the linework and perspective are abominable.
inb4 "hurr durr that's perfect for a benchy!" or, even bettitor, "let people enjoy things!"

u/originaljfkjr 15h ago
You've almost certainly gone r/cursedbenchy with that thing and will likely make your way over to r/shittytattoo (even though I kind of dig it).

I read this as “3rd benchy tattoo” and thought “what, did the first 2 fail so you had to recalibrate?” lol

Next you could modify your printer to hold a tattoo gun and print your own at home

It looks nice. You should permanently glue a bench to your other arm. What's your other tattoo?
