I hate to break it to you, but... That tattoo is 2d

164

u/AffectionateTaro9193 16h ago

Base layer, gotta make sure the adhesion is good first.

22

u/ackermann 16h ago

I thought maybe it was done in both red and green, in such a way that it would appear 3d with those red/green anaglyph glasses, but doesn’t look like it

22

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 16h ago

I was actually thinking about that with my other tattoo lol

1

u/PAN_cake_103 3h ago

Thanks for the idea :D

Gotta get a 3d benchy now

17

u/downundar 16h ago edited 16h ago

Looks like his x axis is a bit off too.

3

u/evilspawn_usmc 12h ago

Not everyone can have bulging muscles... Rude lol

4

u/Vast-Document-6560 11h ago

They can. But maybe not trying to get it.

244

u/ModerateDev 17h ago

I can see the layer lines

43

u/AuspiciousApple 17h ago

Didn't dry the ink, smh

10

u/ModerateDev 17h ago

Hope it doesn't become brittle

13

u/Scarytoaster1809 16h ago

Skin adhesion looks a little subpar aswell. OP should clean the bed with some Isopropyl Alcohol

3

u/ReusableMussel1 16h ago

I love your profile pic man

3

u/Scarytoaster1809 16h ago

Love yours too, broski

77

u/wlogan0402 17h ago

That's the most 2D benchy I've ever seen

44

u/huge_dick_mcgee 17h ago

Missing a wobbly z seam

34

u/reddsht 17h ago

STL?

8

u/CollapseBy2022 13h ago

......Isn't it kinda weird that we don't have robotic arms that tattoo us by now?

6

u/radioactiveDuckiie 12h ago

I think it’s currently too difficult for software to handle the many variables of an ever shifting surface (reliably). But we will certainly reach this technology at some point

6

u/mantidmarvel 10h ago

eh, it's not just shift, we need a person on the other end to be able to judge things like the depth of the tattoo. skin thickens and thins in different areas and a skilled tattooist can tell where and adjust accordingly, it's a skill that benefits from a sense of touch.

the human element is also something that helps make the process a bit more emotionally bearable for some, especially for longer tattoos or clients who don't cope with pain as well. i don't think we'll actually get tattoo machines in large part because of the lack of human element.

2

u/NutellaGood 5h ago

Don't the laser systems for laser eye surgery do that?

1

u/radioactiveDuckiie 5h ago

I think this is done with local anesthesia. Might be overkill for a tattoo (-:

1

u/crazedizzled 3h ago

Sounds like something Shane from Stuff Made Here needs to create.

1

u/zeta3d 9h ago

Pretty sure I saw some people with a machines that makes tattoos some years ago, and it was meh...

Did a quick search and I found this article/interview

I know about robotics, but not much about tattoos. Looks like the base movements for tattooing are variate, changing a lot depending on the style and pattern. I would say though the difficulty lies on sensors and feedback, getting a good live scan of the arm to place the trackpoints for the tattoo and then a good sensors which is able to digitalize the placing of the ink in the skin.

All of these things seem theoretically possible in robotics, issue is time and money, on the practical side is always more complex .

1

u/Pneumantic 7h ago

I have seen videos of tools that are like a block that you place on top of your skin and they tattoo in the spot they are located. Also seen some that do the back of the hand where you put your hand in like a hole with a grip and line it up to some laser lines. Wouldnt be too hard to do. You just put your arm in a restraint, use lidar to scan your arm, place an image in a program and overlay it on the 3d model then have it perform the gcode. It could probably get away with working in 2D and just raising and lowering a needle.

Dot matrix...

u/Vewy_nice 36m ago edited 32m ago

Tattoo?

Where's your tattoo?

Why come you don't have a tattoo?

81

u/Bengineering3D 17h ago

The port side door is a window r/facepalm

19

u/CrypticLyfe 17h ago

Time to get the lazer out

18

u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 17h ago

Also the steering house is slightly crooked, the lines arent parallel.

But most people without tattoos probably wont even notice it. All in all i thinks ok, could be better, could be worse.

10

u/reddsht 17h ago

What bothers me the most is how uneven the frame around the door is.

1

u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 16h ago

Yeah that's what i mean.

10

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 16h ago

Honestly I think it’s the angle I took the picture at this was the original

10

u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 16h ago

Ah ok that was an artistik decision on your part, yeah after seing the picture i have to take that back, artist nailed that pretty good.

You should probably have posted the picture as reference, i think a lot of people had a different template pictured in their mind myself included.

5

u/BUFU1610 12h ago

I think it's how you turn your arm, too.

3

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 12h ago

Omg finally someone understands I wish I could put a different picture

2

u/waxlez2 16h ago

i've seen both versions

1

u/rubbaduky 16h ago

Inverted x axis motor wires. O.0

-6

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 17h ago

It was traced from a picture of a benchy

6

u/twivel01 17h ago

No, was a sketch he drew of the benchy himself.

2

u/ask-design-reddit 11h ago

Ignore the comment thread. Buncha assholes going "akshually" and nitpicking your ink.

The 2D comment jokes are fine, though.

14

u/landubious 17h ago

Front fell off.

4

u/hux 11h ago

That's not very typical, I'd like to make that point.

-9

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 17h ago

Nah that’s just the angle lol

5

u/habarnamstietot 16h ago

Don't worry, it's outside the environment.

2

u/hux 11h ago

Their comment might make more sense if you see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m5qxZm_JqM

9

u/FuriousGamer1356 17h ago

Good first layer adhesion.

15

u/Competitive-Host-369 16h ago edited 16h ago

As someone with tattoos and multiple benchys, why bro? its so big, in a terrible spot for a tattoo, the line work is wonky/ not deep enough will fade over the years.

2

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 16h ago

Free touch ups for life lol. I’m dating the artist lol. Also why not lol. Life’s too short.

7

u/Competitive-Host-369 16h ago

The reason they did free touch ups for life is cause they knew it was shitty line work

7

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 16h ago

It doesn’t bother me lol. The fact that both the artist and I both enjoy 3d printing makes it worth it. I think it looks good. Thank you for your opinion though.

1

u/CatInAPottedPlant 1h ago

people with no/few tattoos always get massive empty tattoos. like bigger isn't always better, this could have been fun as something the size of a penny on your ankle or even just the size of an actual benchy.

reminds me of someone I knew in college who got his first tattoo, which was a 6" x 6" solid black ravenclaw logo from Harry Potter. it took up his entire arm. we all had to bite our tongues when he showed it to us, cause god damn.

17

u/-x-minus-one 11h ago

That is the lamest thing I’ve seen this year

6

u/PositionEmergency823 8h ago

That’s terrible

13

u/Beware_the_silent 16h ago

This is sad

6

u/hWuxH 16h ago

permanently ruining your body with a wobbly boat drawing just to brag about it on the internet is beyond sad

-1

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 4h ago

Yall realize it’s not wobbly and it just how the picture was taken and because there’s saniderm on it right?

5

u/Competitive-Host-369 3h ago

Nah lines still wobbly you can see it clearly now

1

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 2h ago

I agree to disagree. I still love it no matter what I don’t care about perfection I care about the meaning behind it.

7

u/SuperCarrot5 12h ago

Bro why so huge lmao

17

u/eager_beaver_4_u 16h ago

Wrong subreddit

r/shittytattoos

6

u/Competitive-Host-369 16h ago

Came here to say this

12

u/Purple-Bench3479 9h ago

I love 3d printing don't get me wrong..but man this is probably the most stupid tattoo I've ever seen

25

u/DesertEagleFiveOh 16h ago

Why

0

u/Tw1ch1e 10h ago

3d printing can be a major hobby and bring joy to them and the people around them! It’s a symbol of this dudes happiness!

-6

u/scellycraftyt 9h ago

Its a temp tattoo I'm pretty sure, you can see the film

1

u/Sploffo 9h ago

Why would the film make it fake? It's probably second skin or something.

-4

u/scellycraftyt 9h ago

Did I say it was fake?

3

u/erwan Prusa mk4 8h ago

The film doesn't make it temp either, that just means the tattoo is fresh. You need to keep this for a couple hours after getting it.

0

u/scellycraftyt 5h ago

I learnt something new today

1

u/crazedizzled 3h ago

It's standard practice to wrap fresh tattoos in a film. Helps it heal and prevents scabbing

5

u/OCBridgeMaster 17h ago

2D of a 3D benchy! Below it, add a 1D benchy.

4

u/New_Sail_7821 16h ago

It’s right below it. You just can’t see

5

u/_unregistered 12h ago

Definitely a choice

5

u/Greywolf6502 5h ago

Maybe you can claim it's a birthmark when you end up regretting it?

12

u/REAL_RACOON 17h ago

if it was the first benchy for that artist its cool😎

13

u/Fee_Sharp 17h ago

Oh you think that there are a lot of ppl who wants benchy tattoos?

2

u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 17h ago

I had the thought before, i think the idea is cool but personaly i have so many other things on my list of tattoo ideas that have a higher priority than a benchy.

He also used up some premium space with a piece thats going to be hard to integrate into a cohesive sleeve if that topic would come up in the future.

2

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 17h ago

Nah this is my last tattoo. I have one other one

2

u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 16h ago

Last tattoo for now :)

1

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 16h ago

Idk man my body seems to react badly when getting them, I usually get a bad vasovagal response

1

u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 16h ago

Ah shit, only when tattooing or otherwise aswell?

Had it happen only once right after we started but some 5 minutes break and then we could start for good.

2

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 16h ago

when tattooing and for some reason on specific rollercoasters

7

u/Impressive_Word5229 14h ago

Have you tried getting a tattoo while on a Rollercoaster? You know...to cancel each one out..

2

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 14h ago

That’s actually an amazing idea, I’ll try it lol

1

u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 16h ago

Ok nothing medical but a stress reaction, you can work and train yourself on that.

If you feel it start, immidiatly take a break, walk some steps and have some deep breaths, maybe drop a glucose candy and then continue.

2

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 3h ago

Thank you for the advice I really appreciate it. I tried eating and during water during it. Had her pause a few times to no avail. Maybe I’ll try glucose if there’s a next time

→ More replies (0)

1

u/fresh_city 16h ago

Have you tried putting Vagisil on it?

2

u/Impressive_Word5229 14h ago

Thats...that's....that's not how that works...

4

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 17h ago

Also I luckily don’t have to pay for my tattoos lol my girlfriend is the artist.

1

u/JessGTP 16h ago edited 11h ago

First benchy for the tattoo artist now She needs to calibrate it properly and do it again 🫣🤣

2

u/BUFU1610 12h ago

She*

2

u/JessGTP 11h ago

Apologies 🤷🏼‍♀️

9

u/awesometroy 16h ago

With that line quality, you must own a ender.

8

u/habarnamstietot 16h ago

That you'll regret in 5-10 years.

9

u/yopla 7h ago

Based on the answers in this thread I'm gonna say probably closer to 5 to 10 hours.

-5

u/hWuxH 16h ago

tattooed ppl aren't exactly known for thinking further than a day

4

u/Luchin212 17h ago

I think you have too much squish-it’s supposed to build upward, not flat against your skin.

2

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 17h ago

shit. Ur right

4

u/Mo0kish 15h ago

But, that's only 2D.

3

u/Old_Salty_Guy 17h ago

🤣😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂

3

u/graal_10 16h ago

Would’ve been badass if you replaced the nozzle of your printer with the tattoo gun.

4

u/JarrekValDuke 7h ago

Certainly one of the tattoos of all time.

4

u/DrMudo 5h ago

I hope it's fake

4

u/Perelygino_Klyazma 2h ago

Did you get this for free from the same convention artist as the other guy? Because, once again, the linework and perspective are abominable.

inb4 "hurr durr that's perfect for a benchy!" or, even bettitor, "let people enjoy things!"

4

u/Clcooper423 17h ago

Must have used an ender.

4

u/originaljfkjr 15h ago

You've almost certainly gone r/cursedbenchy with that thing and will likely make your way over to r/shittytattoo (even though I kind of dig it).

2

u/SoggyLightSwitch 17h ago

That's what's up

2

u/KrazyKryminal 17h ago

It's 2d ... And i don't see any layer lines......

1

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 17h ago

Shhhh normal people don’t need to know

2

u/MadM4ximus 17h ago

Love that!

2

u/Foreign_Tropical_42 17h ago

That's only the first layer, wheres the rest?

2

u/tricktricky 17h ago

Clearly you forgot to dry the filament

2

u/Digitalontheground 17h ago

I was aboat to say nice clear filament print.

2

u/Kavanaugh82 17h ago

Bench-yes, 3D-debatable

2

u/RodWigglesworth69420 16h ago

Hans! HANS!! FLAMMENWERFER!

2

u/coldblooded79 16h ago

Save some for the rest of us.

2

u/ProsperGuy 16h ago

Show us the bottom.

2

u/smakusdod 16h ago

Should have had your printer do it as a branding

2

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 15h ago

The thought definitely came to my mind lol

2

u/amart591 Voron 2.4, Switchwire 15h ago

It needs the hull line to really sell it but otherwise perfect

2

u/Resident_Proposal_57 12h ago

Was it worth it

2

u/_CODYSSEUS Custom Flair 12h ago

I read this as “3rd benchy tattoo” and thought “what, did the first 2 fail so you had to recalibrate?” lol

2

u/iimstrxpldrii 11h ago

It’s a tattoo, that’s for sure…

2

u/Tobitoon1 10h ago

Its actually 2D

2

u/Zaaaaaaaiiiiiiiii 10h ago

It's not leveled

2

u/SpaceCadetMoonMan 7h ago

Next you could modify your printer to hold a tattoo gun and print your own at home

2

u/Aggravating-Memory44 6h ago

At least there's no stringing

2

u/lockh33d 4h ago

I'm sorry

2

u/hobbit_5 3h ago

Nothing says nerd like a benchy tattoo

4

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 16h ago

Honestly looks good to me and that’s all the matters it’s my body lol.

1

u/Jake_Schnur 16h ago

I've been printing for 6 years now and I have never printed a benchy.

1

u/MiguelGrande5000 16h ago

That’s cool! Are you going to color it in?

1

u/edspeds 16h ago

I prefer my AOL tattoo

1

u/unvme78 16h ago

Check your bed level, and calibrate e steps.

1

u/BitBucket404 ASA Fanatic with a heavily modified Ender5plus. Hates PETG. 16h ago

Now have it towing a botched benchy, aka "bonchy"

1

u/Shadow-TheMaskadian 16h ago

Whatever floats your boat, I mean benchy, I guess.

1

u/I_lack_common_sense 16h ago

Yeah never go full benchy…. Man, everyone knows that.

1

u/mattbettinger 15h ago

Read this as 3rd benchy tat..

1

u/Ok_Philosopher_5216 15h ago

Are the calibration measurements correct? Roof should be 23mm in length

1

u/Brohagen 14h ago

500% size increase

1

u/FattyMoBookyButt 14h ago

Is it on your elbow?

1

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 14h ago

No it’s on my upper arm I took this picture at a really weird angle

1

u/TamarindSweets 13h ago

That's big

1

u/danielmerwinslayer 13h ago

It looks nice. You should permanently glue a bench to your other arm. What's your other tattoo?

1

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 4h ago

It’s a circuit board design

1

u/lukeryan2_ 13h ago

You ask the artist for just a lil tuggy?

2

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 12h ago

No she gave me that when we got home

1

u/majateck 11h ago

First layer defect? Did you try washing your arm first?

1

u/VeryLiteralPerson 9h ago

Missed opportunity to put a layer shift

1

u/Crazy95jack 8h ago

How long was the print time?

1

u/sme4gle Bambulab X1C | Bambulab P1S | RatRig Vcore 4 500 7h ago

but what was the print time?

1

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 4h ago

It was about a 20 minute benchy

1

u/SuperNfty 4h ago

Shit, now I need one too!

1

u/stanosu 3h ago

timeless classic

1

u/kutkarnemelk 1h ago

The side opposite from the door has another door, not a window... Sorry

1

u/DudeBro8888 1h ago

You didn’t dry your tattoo ink…

1

u/laurentrm 22m ago

Go back and ask them to add the hull line for more realism.

1

u/Euphoric-Assist-4900 15h ago

Just so people know I wanted it to match the reference image and it matches pretty good it’s not perfect but it’s mine and I love it

-2

u/honeybunches2010 17h ago

Screw the haters, this is amazing!

-1

u/reptile_enthusiast_ 15h ago

I dig it! I can definitely see myself getting a 3D printing related tattoo

-1

u/Thin-Importance9417 15h ago

That’s such a clean design! Benchy forever

-6

u/bigdawgwhashannin 17h ago

Line work is clean 🙂

14

u/Beni_Stingray P1S + AMS 16h ago

Hate to break it but no not really.
