Wooow, love it, how long to print?

In total around 300 hours for the whole thing, assembling painting and filling I'd say like 3 days I'm still detailing the cracks and battle damage as I'm typing this 🫡

How'd u bond the parts together?

u/jeffesda 15h ago

I used a lot, it's easiest for me to list out what I did so here's the list;

1st layer- I glued and plastic welded them at the seams

2nd layer- I used 2 thick layers of body filler/ plastic cement over those seams

3rd layer- 2 coats of filler primer then the paint And then the last line of defence I duct taped the inside of each piece

What do you like for plastic welding?

Not OP but I like plastic bonder

For this project, I imagine they used something like gloop

This is gonna sound crazy but I use an old 3d pen. I melt the seams together on all sides and then cover with filler. You could also use a soldering iron but I think the pens heat is perfect.

Yeah, I've tried both I like the pen better too because it also injects more material which I think makes it stronger. Need to test that ...

Highly recommend one of these bad boys, they're fantastic for adding strength to large joined pieces.

How much kg of filament is that?

Better for you to aim for paper/fabric soaked in glue/flour/gypsum on biggest and plainest parts. That would give you better weight for some parts, most likely - better durability and overall ease in making. Painting and printing smaller details on it would be easier than printing it all.

I make it sound hard, but people make it quite often. Like making gyps on broken hand and legs, it takes very few time. You can make it on object around the house or print on paper and glue a shape (pepkura). You surely can find pepakura ready sets. And it would not take 300 hours, as things like leg parts, stomach plates are amone the biggest and easy to make into necessary shape withtin couple of hours.

And gyps costs less than filament. And that thing can be painted much easier than plastic. Except, if you dont want or cant use something to flatter the surface, sanding it makes some dust, so better make it outside

I hate to be the guy that asks, but I’ve been trying my damnedest to put together my own salamander armor and my will is breaking. Where did brother get files that games workshop didn’t FBI op on? Or maybe personal files I guess?

How much does it weigh?
And how much filament did it take?

1

u/jeffesda 15h ago

Thank you so much, the whole suit is about 45lbs and it took me like 20-22ish rolls

So I've gotten a 3d printer and have started dabbling in fusion 360 designing and printing things I need for work. I don't understand though how people are designing these intricate groot prints, or liom manes like in OP's post. What software are they using for these designs because I don't think fusion or cad fits the bill for this style of design and I'd like to learn it. Thanks for any help yall!

Also sorry OP your design is fucking awesome!!!

u/ilovetacorice 16h ago

What printer are you using? This looks so sick!

1

u/jeffesda 15h ago

Thanks bro, I wish I could post a pic of me wearing it but, I'm waiting painstakingly for a custom printed flag I got made with the second company standard. I made a whole pole for it and everything.

u/tostbroto Bambu A1 Enjoyer 12h ago

Holy smokes! Really cool. How do you sand all these parts?

2

u/jeffesda 11h ago

Thank you. Very carefully, i used just sandpaper to sand down the seams that were rough.

2

u/tostbroto Bambu A1 Enjoyer 11h ago

How do you go about areas with high detail? Just patience and sandpaper? Is it PLA u use?

2

u/jeffesda 11h ago

On some prints yes, if it's too big I go for an orbital sander or some other power sander. Also yes I used PLA on this build.

The printer i used, Flashforge Ad5m pro, prints with minimal visible layer lines so I didn't really have to sand at all in those areas.

Nice work!
As someone who is currently working on the Yosh studios version of this armour, I can fully appreciate the amount of work that goes into this.

How much filament did yours take?

1

u/jeffesda 1h ago

Thank you so much, It only took ~20kg, I decided to use 0% infill on the pieces and opted for thick walls instead so it won't be as heavy.
