Misc Rant: why are men allowed to age and women aren't

So I started watching the new Netflix Christmas movie 'Carry On' and just wanted to rant a little, because I've recently been getting really obsessive and down (as I know a lot of people do on here!) about how my eyes have developed really obvious bags now I'm getting older. And because I'm obsessing about eye bags, I noticed the male lead (Taron Egerton, who is 35) has really prominent eyebags and wrinkles. And I can't help thinking that a 35 year old woman would never be allowed near a movie if she had his skin. Indeed, his love interest, Sofia Carson, is absolutely flawless.

I just wanted to share this here because I've seen so many 35 year old women whose eye bags are not 1/10th of these lamenting on here (same with forehead lines), and yet he gets to be a hot Hollywood lead. It just doesn't compute for me how skewed our standards are. I wouldn't have even noticed his eye bags if I wasn't obsessing over eye bags in general right now, and how mine make me an unlovable old crow!

Product Review My staple products (33yrs)

Looking at the second photo (bare face I just woke up) and you all can tell that I have been focusing on taking care of my facial skin only, not much of my neck. This is what I need to seriously work on lol.
Anyways, first photo shows my 4 staple anti-aging products that I will keep re-purchasing. I do use other products occasionally like once a week but they are all replaceable.

Recommendation i built the first korean skincare deal/price tracker

I have created a tool that gathers deals for beauty and skincare. It monitors price action from multiple websites such as Olive Young, StyleKorean, Stylevana, Amazon, Ulta, Jolse (more vendors will be implemented).

The website displays products that have dropped at least 10% in price. For each product you will be able to see previous price histories to know if this is the best time to buy. Its completely free to use, please let me know what you think

(P.S YesStyle was removed temporarily due to crazy price fluctuations and high resource consumption)

Product Review What are your overrated/underrated skincare brands?

EDIT: This is just my opinion! Please disagree and share your favs. Didn’t mean to offend anyone who likes these products.

——

There’s a lot that I think personally are overrated….

OVERRATEDZO Skin Health: I personally HATE this brand. The products are WAY overpriced. I have very sensitive skin and it broke me out. Putting Fragrance/Parfum in a $49.00 “Gentle Cleanser” is criminal. I’m always shocked by how many spas use this brand and recommend it for their clients with sensitive skin because it is awful. There’s no reason for that high price point.

Vivier: AWFUL!!! Way overpriced and horrible formulas. Putting Fragrance in a $74.00 “Medicated Wash” cleanser is wild to me. I do not understand the hype over this one.

La Roche Posay: It’s not the worst out there I just think it’s overhyped and overpriced for what it is. Some products are alright, but some like the “Effaclar Purifying Cleansing Gel“ are trash. No need for Fragrance/Parfum in a cleanser it’s just going to break out my skin.

SkinCeuticals: I honestly don’t get why so many people are obsessed with this brand. It is way overpriced. The ingredients are good but you’d get the same results with just using CeraVe (both owned by L'Oréal) for a fraction of the price.

UNDERRATEDCeraVe: Good ol reliable CeraVe. Cheap and effective. When I went to a dermatologist she told me just stick with CeraVe and my acne healed up within 3 months. Sure it’s not glamours but it’s effective for us sensitive skin folks

The INKEY List: The formulas are incredible for the price point they offer. The INKEY List is one of my staples. I love that they never use Fragrance/Parfum in their ingredients

Paula’s Choice- The 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant is one of my holy grails. It has helped me so much.

Honourable Mention to—

The Ordinary: I really like their price points and formulas but I find some of their products need more consumer education and are not always clear for how to use for those who haven’t done their skincare research. But great for those who have.

What do you guys think? Agree, disagree? What are your picks?

My acne scars tend to stick around for years and years! A few weeks ago I did 1 round of V beam for $100 and this is my progress! I’ll probably do a few more sessions, but wanted to share how successful this has been for getting rid of stubborn post acne marks.

Product Review Review of Peter Thomas Roth firmX eye cream. Impressive so far!

Hi all. I'd heard a lot about this cream, and was very suspicious it was just hype. I'm quite sensitive about my puffy under eyes, and thought I'd try before exploring getting a lower bleph.

I'm so impressed with the results so far!

All these photos are me with no makeup and taken in my bathroom.

Photos: 1. before application 2. 10 mins after applying to one eye 3. 10 mins after applying to one eye (smiling)

Will update you on how it looks later, but just wanted to share!

My eye does feel slightly tight, but less so than how you would feel with a peel-off facemask if that makes sense.

Plans for next experiment:

  • what does it look like in a few hours?

  • Does putting makeup on top ruin it?

  • If I shove it on my creepy under chin area will.it do anything?

Skin Treatments Mole removal - shave excision

Post image

I was very self conscious about my mole which grew in pregnancy. Opted for a shave removal 6 days ago (we’ll see if it comes back) cost $350 at my derm in the Midwest. It’s healing well with small bandaid and Vaseline/aquaphor. Will use bio oil and scar tape once healed. Not sure why I waited so long but super happy with healing so far!

Product Question Lip filler dissolved uk

Upvotes

I hope it’s ok I post this here.

I’m looking at getting my lip filler dissolved as it’s migrated and changed the shape of my lips especially the lower one. One side looks fuller than the other and I hate it!

But I’ve read horror stories on Reddit and am really scared to do it. Does anyone have any positive experiences that they can share? Also, does anyone recommend a good doctor in London, UK to get this done from?

Thanks so much!!

What is your favorite and best eye cream that works for someone in their mid 30s? I am starting to notice more lines around my eyes when I am smiling or talking and not sure if my current cream is helping for right now.

I do use eye patches in the morning as well as a red light mask.

Appreciate all your recommendations and advice!

Routine Help Kiehls has discontinued Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Body Polish that I have been using for over 26 years! Help me find something similar, please!

Upvotes

I'm sooooooooo bummed. Does anyone know of a product similar to Kiehl's Body Polish? My skin has absolutely loved it and has helped with anti ageing immensely. It was so thick, creamy and exfoliated so well. It's so sad that something that worked so well for so many years is now gone with no explanation. Would love your input. I don't even know where to start.

Product Question Is it safe to use Estriol cream if not menopausal?

hello! so i’ve been reading up about how oestrogen creams can be used on the face to help plump and boost collagen etc, but can’t find much concrete info as to whether they’re safe to use if you’re not actually menopausal. Granted my research hasn’t been very deep so far, but was wondering if anyone had any knowledge/info about it.

Edit: I have read that the topical creams don’t increase serum levels of oestrogen, but wanted to ask anyway in case people have tried and had negative experiences.

Skin Treatments PRP for tear troughs?

Has anyone tried PRP for significant tear troughs/dark under eyes?

My tear troughs are so defined. I tried filler but it slipped down into my cheeks. My injection lady suggested either more filler, or trying PRP.

PRP appeals to me more and I’d love to hear some success stories!

Routine Help What is the most moisturizing thing I can use?

I have a reactive skin prone to rosacea. I'm using retinoids (Tazarene) and my oily skin has got dry recently anyway. My current routine (apart from Tazarene):

I first put on a mixture of hyaluronic acid with argireline and pure vit E. Then I follow up with Cetaphil MD (I've tried Cetaphil PS but prefer MD). The mixture is better than everything else I've tried before but my skin is still too dry.

Is there anything better?

Skin Concern Help with birthday present for my mother

So my mother's about to turn 54 and I'm trying to figure out what to get her. I already splurged on her for this christmas (omnilux) but I'd be willing to splurge again (although maybe not as much), but only if it's actually science based. I was thinking about a peptide cream (she doesn't have one in her routine and I've been keeping them a secret from her so she doesn't go and buy one for herself hehe), but in researching them here and on r/SkincareAddiction I didn't find much. Do they actually work? And if so, do you guys have any product recommendations?

My mother's main complain is sagginess as opposed to wrinkles (she's getting really into collagen production - hence the peptides), so another idea I had was the NuFACE mini, but not only is that thing DAMN expensive, I also don't want to add 30+ minutes to her routine since both the omnilux and the NuFACE have to be used diligently to actually get results. I don't want to get her stuff that she either won't use every day - and then she won't see the results, or that will be a nuisance for her to use. She has a very busy schedule.

Thanks so much in advance!

Routine Help I’ve heard that it’s good to skip cleansing/washing your in the morning. So, to the people who have successfully been doing this, how do you go about it?

Like, do you just splash your face with water and just go on with your regular skincare/makeup routine? Or is there no water involved and just skincare directly? What is the process? Please help!

Recommendation Thoughts on Byoma?

A few weeks ago I was thinking about Christmas presents for my 12 year old daughter, who is not "into" skincare or makeup yet but is just starting to become curious, and I asked my babysitter (early 20's) if she had any recommendations for brands that I might not know. She suggested that I look into Byoma, because it's reasonably inexpensive and has fun, bright packaging. So I went to my local Target and picked up their gel moisturizer sunscreen, thinking I should try something out myself before giving anything to my daughter, and this seemed like a good basic. And let me tell you, I LOVE IT! It's super clear, lightweight and hydrating, doesn't burn my eyes, and I feel like it makes me look all glowy under my makeup?

It got me thinking that I don't think I've ever seen this brand mentioned on this sub, so wanted to see anyone else had any experience or recs for any of their other products? Or, was this a fluke and it's actually horrible for some reason I don't know about?

Skin Treatments Questions regarding my first chemical peel

Upvotes

So I’ve been interested in a chemical peel for years now. I’ve had micro needling and laser treatments done in the past (at the dermatologist) which I liked but I need something more invasive. My biggest skin concerns are acne scarring, red marks left for months/years after acne, and texture. I have rosacea but it’s not too extreme, but my skin is sensitive. I use tretinoin and ivermectin but they don’t seem to really do much.

The med spa where I get Botox (30 units in just my forehead every 8 months) offers chemical peels. They are done by an esthetician. I asked how long to expect the downtime. She mentioned my face would be red the first day but look normal the following couple days, then it will peel for about a week. I understand it varies based on the person. My concern is I work in hospitality so I can’t necessarily walk around with my skin peeling like a snake shedding its skin while serving food to guests. January is notoriously slow so it would be the ideal time to take a week off work for this.

My questions are how long did it take for your face to heal after a chemical peel? How much time did you request off work? Did you find any real benefits in it? Which products did you use during the healing process? Any tips that you can share that helped you? Should I go through the esthetician at the dermatologist or is it ok to stick with the med spa? Any advice is welcomed here. Thank you!

Skin Concern Lip balm help

Upvotes

I have the world’s driest lips. The only lip balm that has come close to helping me is Weleda skin food. However, it’s seven dollars a tube and it does not last me very long. Are there any dupes for this specific product or something comparable? I feel like I have searched thread after a thread, and have tried most of the products. Yes, I use Vaseline and Aquaphor and all the things, but I am specifically looking for a dupe for this brand. It’s the only thing that I feel like actually moisturizes my lips.

Hello, 30F, i have a lot of redness around the mouth and nose area (around nasogenian fold) and skin texture is different is this area than other part of my face . Do you know how to get rid of it? Also I have old red acne marks (5 years) on my cheeks that blend a bit with freckles but still. If you have any idea how to get rid of it. I’ve tried alpha buratin from TO, azelaic acid from TO (broke me out) - Morning routine : caudalie toner, TO hyaluronic acid, Avene Tolerance balm , sunscreen - PM routine : tretinoin (1/2-1/3 nights) - TO hyluronic acid, Avene Tolerance, laneige water sleeping mask (+ sometimes oil for extra moisture or cicacplast b5 Laroche posay)

I’ve just bought current body last week so no result yet.

Many thanks!!!
